Four ideas frame the work of the faculty in the Rossier School:

The importance of research having an impact;

The centrality of innovation in research and in the education sector;

The ability to transgress disciplinary boundaries; and

The significance of collaboration.

Rossier faculty are heavily engaged in research that helps shape state and federal public policy. We work closely with the second largest school district in the United States the Los Angeles Unified School District. We are involved in long-term collaborative efforts with schools, community colleges, postsecondary institutions and community-based organizations. Our intent is to create research of consequence and to develop intellectuals prepared for faculty and administrative positions in an increasingly complex world.

The mission of the Rossier School is to improve urban education locally, nationally, and globally. Urban areas typically have unique strengths including racial, ethnic, linguistic, and cultural diversity. Urban regions also face challenges associated with equity and access, poverty, density, immigration, and strained social conditions around housing, healthcare, and crime. Rossier faculty work to craft research agendas that guide and create informed public policy on these issues and bring about change aimed at developing a more equitable society. We seek individuals who are not only interested in conducting rigorous research but also intent on having their research translated in a way that enables multiple constituencies (e.g. policy-makers, administrators and teachers, parents and students) to make use of it. Rossier faculty benefit from vigorous debate and seek colleagues who are willing to engage in discussions about the future of education.

Candidates should have an extensive background in a relevant discipline or field, (e.g. education, political science, economics, psychology, anthropology, sociology, organizational behavior, business, and policy). An independent program of research, characterized by methodological sophistication (quantitative or qualitative), potential for (or track-record of) external support, and international visibility is required.

Robert A. Naslund Chair of Curriculum Theory in Teacher Education

Our (CAEP) accredited teacher education programs include a unique blend of online learning, social networking, and on site teaching, which will be a central focus of the candidates contribution to research, teaching, and service. The candidate should have evidence of grant funding, experience with face-to-face and online graduate education programs, and leadership skills essential to cultivating collaboration among faculty, staff, and students as well as with P-12 partners locally, nationally, and globally.
