Job Summary/Basic Function:
Job Summary:
The Director of LU Strong Program and an essential member of the LU CARE Team that leads and participates in communications, case management and support coordination across the University. The LU Strong Program and the LU CARE Team address the needs of the most vulnerable undergraduate and graduate students, managing significant risk and requiring impeccable judgment. The Director, works as part of a team, works in close collaboration with residential life staff, undergraduate and graduate student support services, mental health clinicians, health care providers, and other support resources on and off campus.

The LU Strong Program and LU CARE Team has primary responsibility for ensuring that information flows across support resources so that response to students in need is proactive and ideally preventative. The LU CARE Team facilitates well-being checks, manages student cases through a database system including opening, following through on, and closing of cases, and collaborates with stakeholders to ensure that students are receiving timely attention and follow up. The Director of LU Strong Program attends the Dean on Call and the LU CARE Team meetings and assists in campus crises. The Director of LU Strong program assists with students that are transitioning to/from LU due to hospitalizations, leaves, and returns.

Job Responsibilities:
CARE Team: Perform all functions related to LU Strong and LU CARE Team, including:
  • Facilitating wellbeing checks on campus and coordinating with local resources for off-campus well-being checks.
  • Formulating care plans in collaborations with stakeholders.
  • Contacting and collaborating with other University departments to expedite problem solving and resolution.
  • Providing referrals to support services within the University as well as community agencies.
  • Keeping track of open cases to support follow through with recommendations.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records and prepare reports.
  • Assisting students with needs including, but not limited to, crisis intervention, referral to community resources, and access to medical care including hospitalization.
  • Supporting students in transition due to hospitalization, academic and/or medical leaves and returns.
  • Working with parents, as necessary, to mobilize parental support for the student's needs.
  • Leading case conferences on particularly vulnerable students to promote collaboration and coordination.

    Programming:
  • As assigned, participate in Dean on Call Team, LU CARE Team, and Response Team in the case of a student death. Coordinate follow up plans from these meetings as necessary.

    Teaching Assignment:
  • Will teach clinical classes in the Social Work program.

    Other responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students.

    Supervision Received:
    The Director of LU Strong Program will report to the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students for program administration. The Director of LU Strong will receive supervision from the Director of Social Work program for the clinical classes.

    Supervision Exercised:
    Supervision of undergraduate interns from the Social Work program.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Qualifications and Education:
    Masters degree in social work plus at least two (2) years of experience in higher education or closely related setting with a demonstrated knowledge of case management systems; experience responding to crisis situations; impeccable judgement and experience managing risk; success in compiling and communicating highly confidential information; must be reliable and able to work independently; must have a high level of organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills; must be flexible and adaptable; ability to take initiative, plan, develop, organize and follow through on projects and plans while working in a high pressure, dynamic environment; experience working with diverse populations; familiarity with mental health terminology, including diagnostic categories and treatments; knowledge and understanding of student privacy and medical privacy guidelines and regulations; ability to work within a comprehensive student support database and reporting system.

    Preference will be given to applicants with a Masters degree in Social Work.
