Insurance Verification Specialist

Position Summary
Primary responsibilities include medical and vision insurance verification for patients at all clinic locations. Other duties include check in, patient check out, payment collections, appointment scheduling and daily balancing. This is full-time position where duties and responsibilities will evolve as the clinical network expands. UIWRSO personnel will be subject to the leave and holiday policies of the School of Optometry and its clinical services, which may differ from those of UIW. Description of Job Duties
The individual will provide initial patient contact. Register patient in the EHR system, by confirming demographic information and insurance information. Answers phones and makes patient appointments or triages calls to the appropriate clinical faculty or staff. Verifies patient insurance eligibility and benefits. Collects cash, and credit card payments from patients. Posts all charges and payments into the EHR. Balances cash and credit card payments against daily deposit reports. Schedules follow up appointments for patients upon check out. Reviews billing and coding for accuracy. Solves patient/client concerns promptly and effectively. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Good communication and organizational skills are essential. Must demonstrate sound judgment and attention to detail. The ability to maintain confidentiality and work under pressure are required. The position requires the skills to interact with the public and fellow co-workers with respect.

Required Education
High School Diploma or its equivalent.

Required Work Experience
Two years related work experience in a medical office. Proficiency in electronic medical records is essential. A basic understanding of clinic operations and HIPAA guidelines are expected.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience as a receptionist/cashier in an optometry practice and some college course work is preferred. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
