Monmouth University is seeking a development, engagement, or marketing professional for an Alumni Engagement Officer role in the University Advancement division. Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement, the Alumni Engagement Officer plans and executes a variety of projects such as: conceiving, planning, implementing and staffing alumni events; recruiting and managing volunteers; advising student and alumni groups and committees; and conducting communication activities for both digital and print distribution. This role requires sensitive interaction with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the Director of Alumni Engagement, work to develop strategic engagement opportunities for recent alumni; both virtually and in-person.
- Engage recent alumni off-campus and regionally with in-person events and programming as well as strategic non-event opportunities.
- Implement strategies to connect students with alumni via collaborations with the Career Development office.
- Work with Advancement Services to create and prepare reports to track student and recent alumni engagement and giving.
- Beginning as early as orientation, work to educate students on the importance of philanthropy and foster strong relationships with students that translate into a culture of strong alumni engagement. These functions should comprise about approximately 25% of your time.
- Acting as the primary liaison between the Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving team and the Office of Student Engagement, manage the class giving campaign, as well as advise the Student Alumni Association and the senior class officers (pending Student Engagement Approval) to ensure giving messages and strategies are incorporated into relevant student programming.
- In collaboration with the Senior Director for Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving, develop strategic messaging and follow-up communications surrounding recent alumni programming and the class giving campaign.
- In collaboration with the Digital Giving Officer, work with the Marketing and Communications team to create targeted digital communications including, but not limited to invitations, solicitations, and general engagement, as well as developing a social media strategy to correspond.
- Work with the Stewardship and Donor Relations team to develop and execute a meaningful stewardship plan for recent alumni and student donors.
- Identify and manage recent alumni for the Alumni Association Board of Directors, the Recent Alumni Award, and volunteer opportunities.
- Manage one standing committee of the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
- Plan and develop content for the alumni website, social media platforms, Monmouth magazine, Monmouth Now, and Monmouth Monthly (alumni e-newsletter), with a strategic focus on recent alumni.
- As needed, supervise student workers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree or obtain by date of employment.
- Two (2) years of professional experience in development, engagement, marketing, or a related field.
- Demonstrated capacity to grow professionally and to make sound, independent business decisions, but also work within a cross-collaborative team.
- Ability to formulate strategic objectives, and manage a variety of events and programs as well as set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
- Willingness and ability to work nights, weekends, and travel as required.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with CRM software, and with graphics management software, such as Adobe Photoshop and/or Canva.
- Experience with digital marketing, and management of social media, volunteers, and events.
- Experience in development, engagement, or marketing.
