The Colorado Shared Instrumentation in Nanofabrication and Characterization (COSINC) Facility, within the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado Boulder, is looking to hire a highly motivated and collaborative Facility Instructor and Coordinator, to be part of a cross-functional team and mainly assist in the instruction of cleanroom tools, user recruitment/onboarding, and external funding report preparation, including the support on a selection of material characterization instruments and NQN tools. This position provides opportunities to contribute to COSINC and NQN facilities and interact with a growing and diverse user base (from the CU system and other universities, companies and federal labs) and ensure that our services and support are offered at the highest possible standards. Who We Are
The Colorado Shared Instrumentation in Nanofabrication and Characterization (COSINC) Facility is a multidisciplinary shared user campus facility that provides access to state-of-the-art equipment in the areas of micro and nanofabrication, nanomaterials characterization and offers expertise and advanced hands-on training in the same related areas. It is an open-research facility serving the academic, industrial and governmental researchers across campus and beyond. Further, COSINC is supporting the recent NSF award to build and establish the National Quantum Nanofab (NQN) facility, that will be integrated with the existing COSINC ISO 5/6 cleanroom and material characterization capabilities. COSINC provides a wide range of instrumentation ranging from etchers, thin-film deposition systems, lithography tools to wet-processing capabilities, including the recently installed industry-grade Electron Beam Lithography (EBL) system for high resolution nanoscale patterning. In addition, there is a comprehensive suite of material characterization instruments such as scanning electron microscopes (SEM), focus-ion beam-SEM, Field Emission-SEM, Atomic Force Microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Low energy ion scattering spectroscopy and Small/wide angle X-ray scattering instruments.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Lead user recruitment, onboarding and assist in user outreach activities, including NQN users and broader impacts activities and coordination.
- Assist in the design and development of a remote user platform to serve external NQN users.
- Lead the design and development of user hands-on training on a wide range of NQN cleanroom instrumentation and material characterization instruments, including preparation of online media and AI-enabled training.
- Assist in the preparation of reports for external funding agencies, including data collection and analysis.
- Operate, coordinate maintenance, train users on a wide range of NQN instrumentation, such as etchers, thin-film deposition systems, optical lithography, including, various types of electron scanning microscopes and atomic force microscopy.
- Provide hands-on training to users, including instrument operation, sample preparation, and data analysis.
- Create, develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials.
- May advise users on appropriate fabrication and imaging techniques for their research needs.
- Liaise, coordinate and communicate with tool vendors to resolve technical issues quickly.
- Assist in NQN tool installations, commissioning, process recipes and process qualifications.
- Assist in basic maintenance on cleanroom and characterization tools, including general cleanroom housekeeping.
- Upload and manage resources on the facility resource scheduler system.
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation of the protocols, instrumentation logs, and/or data collected by the facility.
- Assist with administrative duties necessary for a fee-for-service facility operation such as collecting and/or entering facility billing data and resolving invoicing issues.
- Enforce user safety and compliance guidelines daily in addition to annual lab safety EHS audits.

What We Can Offer
- The annual salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000.
- Onboarding/relocation assistance may be available, however, if within a 12-month period you exercise your right to willfully terminate your employment with the University of Colorado, you hereby agree to reimburse the unit for your relocation expense.

What We Require
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Physics, Material Science or Chemistry.
- Minimum of one year of experience on cleanroom equipment, fabrication process experience in an ISO 5/6 Clean Room environment.
- Minimum of two years of experience in scanning electron and atomic force microscopy techniques.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with users with diverse academic/professional backgrounds.
- Proficient in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
