About the Position:
The Office of Student Retention is focused on persistence and graduate rates of students, aiming to empower Titans in the process of matriculation. At first glance, professional growth and academic success are the focuses of this area, yet it is more about the relationships that are developed to foster such success. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Coordinator of Supplemental Instruction (Student Services Professional II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Coordinator of Supplemental Instruction provides valuable support in coordinating and implementing an exemplary and comprehensive Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program. The Coordinator assists with the recruitment, interviewing, training, oversight, and evaluation of the SI Leaders. They collaborate in planning and facilitating pre-semester SI Leader orientations and trainings. They work closely with the Assistant Director of Supplemental Instruction and meets regularly with SI staff and Implementation Team members to sustain a quality SI Program. Under general direction, the in the Student Services Professional II performs moderately complex professional student service work in that assignments typically require the application of both knowledge and judgment in using the principles, techniques, standards, guides and professional skills characteristic of a particular student service program or activity.

This is the first level to require planning, interviewing and counseling techniques. Provides judgment to recommend solutions to problems and changes in program procedures. Acts as a spokesperson within the area of expertise. The Coordinator of Supplemental Instruction typically has sufficiently broad assignments which require some coordination with other functions within the same program area or within other program areas within Student Services. In addition, assigned responsibilities require some planning of the work operation. The problems encountered are generally of limited scope with alternative solutions readily available, although changes in regulations, guidelines and procedures can occur; likewise, situations can arise in which judgment must be utilized to apply existing guidelines and procedures to unusual circumstances. The position is expected to use judgment within the area of their expertise to revise existing procedures and to recommend solutions to problems for which precedents may not exist. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field. A masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews, and advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to reason logically and use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and of the overall organization.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Supplemental Instruction Certification from the University of Missouri - Kansas City

Experience as an SI Leader or teaching experience.
