Responsibilities:
The Graduate Academic Advisor in the Bouve College of Health Sciences (BCHS) will provide effective, student-centered advising, retention, and support to graduate students. The advisor will be responsible for formulating and recommending policies and procedures to effectively administer Student Service related academic activities. S/he will assist with new-student orientation sessions and course registration. S/he will recommend new and improved programs and systems to effectively manage students' academic progression, engagement, and retention. S/he will participate in recruitment activities as needed. S/he will provide support for the Office of Student Services through reports and data related to students' academic progress, engagement in curricula and extra-curricular activities, and retention. S/he will work with students to enhance engagement in their majors, colleges, university, and community at large. S/he will serve as liaison between university administrators, students, parents, faculty, staff, and others regarding students' academic success. In collaboration with the Senior Director of Student Services, s/he will design and administer activities and programs to promote academic success of students through completion of their graduate education. S/he will serve as the liaison for units across campus to include:

  • Residential Life-Living Learning Communities, Career Services, Student Athletes

  • University Health and Counseling Services, WeCare, Disability Resource Center

  • Registrar's Office and other university offices as needed.

    S/he will support students using a variety of university information systems, such as Registrar's Office, Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS), Faculty Communication Advising Tool (FACT), course catalog, CourseLeaf, Banner, SalesForce, Student Success Collaborative, etc. S/he also will monitor academic programs, curricular changes, and accreditation requirements in collaboration with unit leaders, program directors and faculty.

    Qualifications:
    Master's degree required. Two years professional experience in higher education desirable. Ability to work with students to support and advice students from first-year through completion of graduate education. Demonstrated advising and counseling abilities. Expertise in policies and processes related to graduate student academic affairs, including: registration, database management, progression, academic standing, statistical & financial reporting, and graduation clearance. Ability to establish, refine and be accountable for meeting goals in a dynamic work environment. Strong analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills; proactive, organized, and attentive to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Excellent oral and written communication skills and team-building skills. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with individuals of diverse levels and cultural backgrounds. Ability to set goals, multitask and manage time effectively. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information. -Demonstrated leadership qualities with respect to advising and mentoring students and staff. Ability to develop and implement innovative student services to support students' academic progression and retention.
