Wilmington University is hiring adjunct faculty for F2F at its New Castle, DE campus for to teach Statistics and Algebra.

The mission of the College of Arts and Sciences is to give students a diverse foundation in liberal studies that will serve them as life-long, self-directed learners. General Studies' degrees offer flexibility in future career choices while individual classes help structure the framework for future academic specialization. We foster the values of disciplined inquiry, academic integrity, and strong communication skills as an avenue to academic and professional success. The College of Arts and Sciences teaches students critical thinking to develop their ability to judge information in an increasingly complex and pluralistic society.

Applicants must be able to teach Face-to-Face (not online) in the classroom at our New Castle County, DE locations. In addition, applicants must have a Master's degree; either the graduate or undergraduate degree should be in mathematics (attach unofficial transcripts). Experience with teaching algebra, descriptive and inferential statistics at the secondary or post-secondary education level is preferred. Additional requirements include strong communication skills, computer skills, the ability to use MS Office software, and experience in the discipline they expect to teach. Experience in using a Learning Management System, such as Blackboard or Canvas is a plus. In addition to the minimum education and computer skills, applicants are expected to:

  • Understand the mission and values of Wilmington University

  • Submit a Teaching Philosophy, following these guidelines: Provide a description of your teaching philosophy. Your description should be no more than 1.5 pages in length and should include the following information: (1) A brief statement (5-7 sentences) explaining how you plan to provide excellence in teaching, relevancy of curriculum, and individual attention to students, which is the cornerstone of Wilmington University's mission statement. (2) Based on your statement above, please briefly answer the following questions: (a) Explain your beliefs, theories and/or methods regarding teaching and how they shape your concept of successful teaching? (b) How do you know when you are teaching effectively? (c) How do you develop and maintain positive relationships with students? (d) How do you create a supportive learning environment? and (3) Include a summary of your thoughts on education and the role that you feel you could play in developing students to be successful in their discipline, career, and life. (This statement can be pasted in the area provided in the application or attached via the attachments area of the application.)

  • Work within tight deadlines required of a 15-week or 7-week Block format curriculum

  • Know various instructional strategies designed to meet the course instructional objectives and add to student learning

  • Develop a personalized course outline designed to follow basic course information provided by the University

  • Possess good writing skills and provide a writing sample when requested

  • Complete the required Learning Management System training and then attend the University's 3-week online training program so as to demonstrate mastery in the classroom

  • Provide any relevant work experience to the instructional content of the course
