Job Summary
This position, Admissions Counselor, will be primarily responsible for developing and implementing recruitment strategies to increase enrollment in an assigned recruitment territory. This person will build and strengthen relationships with prospective students, parents, and other key stakeholders. This position focuses on recruiting and enrolling applicants who are academically prepared and excited about becoming part of a community of diverse leaners and scholars.

The Admissions Counselor will meet with influencers at targeted schools to present programs and promote the enrollment at the University. This position requires extensive travel, evening, and weekend work, as well as extensive interaction with prospective students, parents, and other key stakeholders. This person must have both the desire and passion to engage in significant interpersonal communications with prospective students over the phone, as well as in-person, emails, and text messaging. This individual will possess project management skills, data analysis skills, be an effective team player, and excellent organizer to handle multiple tasks.

Responsibilities*
Responsible for the planning, development, execution, and evaluation of recruitment and outreach programs to support the University's mission within an assigned territory in Michigan. Prepare and track progress of programs and recruitment efforts. Direct the day to day operations of recruitment and future planning for program continuation and growth consistent with UM Flint Admissions and University goals. Coordinate with schools, colleges, and offices across the UM Flint campus for participation in the programs. Oversee enrollment management and monitor trends for assigned territory in Michigan.

Build and strengthen relationships with primary feeder schools to increase yield. Prepare and execute presentations to prospective students, parents, and other key stakeholders. Develop new markets to broaden qualified applicant pool from the assigned recruitment area. Represent UM Flint at recruitment fairs and alumni functions. Support the University's mission of building an academically excellent and diverse educational community. Coordinate visitation and travel to high volume/high yielding high schools. Exercise significant discretion and independent judgment in developing and modifying travel schedules, within an assigned territory, during the admissions year to meet the University's admissions goals. Advise students on the admissions process, educational opportunities, and academic requirements at UM Flint via phone, as well as, in-person, emails, and text messaging. Meet with students, parents, and community members in large groups or individually both on and off campus. Interpret University admissions policies and procedures. Provide assistance and answer questions regarding admissions requirements, academic programs and student life either in person, via phone, via email, or via text message. Provide liaison services to other UM Flint offices including financial aid, housing, orientation, or specific school and colleges. Represent UM Flint's Office of Undergraduate Admissions at professional meetings and regional workshops. Collaborate with other regionally located UM staff. Work with the recruitment communications in support of program objectives. Gather formal feedback from applicable constituencies and assist the management of staff on making recruitment decisions. Conduct extensive communication with students, parents, secondary school officials and other stakeholders by explaining admissions decisions, including rejections.

Evaluate applications holistically for domestic freshman students using UM Flint's individualized, holistic, and comprehensive application evaluation guidelines. Recommend appropriate admissions actions in a timely manner. Work with processing team to support the process and document flow. Make consistent recommendations abiding by UM Flint and specific school/college guidelines. Serve as the primary admissions and enrollment liaison for the assigned territory.

Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Three or more year's recruitment experience within college admissions. Current UM-Flint Undergraduate Admissions Office employee. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet multiple deadlines. Must have strong organization skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proven ability to operate independently and make independent decisions.

Desired Qualifications*
Master's Degree in higher education or related field.
