Position Summary:
The Assistant Farm Supervisor performs general farm support duties including operating farm equipment; assisting with all agronomic practices associated with dry land farming, livestock operations, maintenance and harvest; and assisting with equipment and facility maintenance and repair. The employee works under the Associate Manager of the Palouse Research, Extension and Education Center (PREEC) Beef and Sheep units.

Minimum Qualifications:

o Two years minimum experience operating and supervising in agricultural or mechanical areas.

o Experience in: working with livestock; dry land farming and farm management techniques, including equipment operation and maintenance; operating, troubleshooting and effecting minor repairs of farm equipment, tools and machinery.

o Possess limited pesticide applicators license or the ability to obtain this license within three months of hire.

o Must have a valid drivers license and able to successfully pass a drivers record check.

Preferred Qualifications:

o Two years college training in agricultural production or mechanics.

o Knowledge of: requirements of livestock research; proper chemical application and safety procedures.

o Ability to: maintain computerized records; work with divers individuals; follow instructions and communicate clearly.

o Ability to: supervise others; work effectively with faculty and co-workers; follow good safety practices; keep detailed records; work with a variety of people with varying backgrounds and cultures; explain procedures and train other.

o Experience: with maintenance of building and fencing systems.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
o Willingness to: work with toxic chemicals; work in adverse environmental conditions. o Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move heavy objects up to 75 pounds. o Willingness to: work odd and irregular hours including weekends and holidays, if required.
