The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at The College at Brockport, State University of New York is accepting applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor and chair. Rank to be determined commensurate with background and experience. Anticipated start date is August 2020.

Major Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in recreation and leisure studies. They will teach courses in the core curriculum, recreation management, tourism management, and/or therapeutic recreation concentrations. They will engage in scholarly activities, engage in student advisement and mentoring, serve on committees at the departmental, school and college levels, and serve as Department chairperson.

Required Qualifications

    Doctoral degree in Recreation & Leisure Studies or related discipline by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university. University teaching experience. Ability to conduct independent research. Ability to teach recreation management and/or tourism management and/or therapeutic recreation courses. Experience in administration and committee management. Demonstrated potential for increasing the diversity of the curriculum, student body or faculty through teaching/mentoring.



Preferred Qualifications

    Familiarity with COAPRT standards. Experience in academic advisement. Evidence of grantsmanship.




Department Description
The Department of Recreation & Leisure Studies prepares practitioners who are committed to the highest level of professionalism and leadership in order to positively influence the quality of life of the communities they serve. The Department offers students three concentrations from which to choose: Recreation Management, Tourism Management, and Therapeutic Recreation. The Department is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT).
