Position Summary:
The Center for Disability Access and Resources is committed to removing barriers and providing equitable access to students with disabilities. The Assistant Director serves as a resource on disability-related initiatives and collaborates with faculty, staff and students to increase accessibility and promote universal design. The Assistant Director meets with students and reviews supporting documentation to determine program eligibility, conducts interviews with students to identify appropriate accommodations/services and works closely with staff and faculty to ensure reasonable accommodations are in place. The Assistant Director provides ongoing support to students with disabilities and collaborates with academic support programs and services to ensure students with disabilities have access to effective resources. The Assistant Director serves on committees and coordinates disability awareness activities and supports the Director by providing departmental leadership and other duties as assigned. The incumbent reports to the Director of Center for Disability Access and Resources.


Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Masters degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychological Counseling, Social Work, or related field.

Experience:
Two years of professional work experience providing services to individuals with disabilities at a post-secondary institution or related environment;
Experience interviewing and questioning clients to gather information;
Experience using professional judgment to solve problems and make sound decisions;
Experience interpreting and applying disability laws (Sec. 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, ADA) to field of practice;
Experience working with individuals of diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.


Preferred Qualifications:
Two years supervisory experience in a post-secondary setting;
Strong Knowledge of disability laws and appropriate services/accommodations for students with disabilities at the post-secondary level;
Experience completing the interactive process to determine appropriate services and reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities at the post-secondary level;
Strong knowledge of cognitive disabilities, learning disabilities, ADHD, traumatic brain injuries, and psychological disabilities;
Knowledge of learning strategies and information processing as it relates to students/adults with learning disabilities;
Excellent verbal communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills;
Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes;
Working knowledge of appropriate psycho-educational diagnostic tests and the evaluation of test data;
Ability to teach learning strategies to students with disabilities, particularly related to executive functioning disorders;
Willingness and desire to work in a collaborative/team environment;
Strong organizational skills and proven ability to multi-task;
Knowledge of common accommodations in higher education such as: assistive technology, testing, and notetaking.
