Assistant Kibbie Dome and Athletic Events Manager

Position Summary:
Working under the general direction of the Kibbie Dome and Athletic Events Manager, this position is responsible for assisting in planning, managing and supervising athletic event services for activities taking place in the Kibbie Activity Center, Swim Center, Memorial Gymnasium, Sprint Turf, Soccer Pitch and other athletic facilities. This position will also assist in managing facilities, equipment and staffing to support programs, activities, and day-to-day facility operations as they pertain to events. This position is responsible in assisting the Kibbie Dome and Athletic Event Manager in developing, monitoring and managing the program/activity budgets, contracts and logistics associated with individual athletic events; supervising and evaluating performance of staff and ensuring completion of all project activities.
This individual must create a work environment that emphasizes customer service, teamwork, safety and the protection/preservation of the departmental physical assets. The department strives for continuous quality improvement and effective use of available resources.


Minimum Qualifications:
2 years experience in a related field (ex. event planning, facilities, recreation, sports management/administration, etc.)
Experience:
o Developing and managing events and activities.
o Developing, implementing, and evaluating written materials such as policies and procedures, technical and training manuals, contracts and visiting team information guides.
Experience with practices and patron service responsibilities including event planning and scheduling.
Experience with budgeting and accounting procedures.
Demonstrated experience maintaining proper event related safety procedures and policies. Experience with best practices in event related risk management. Experience with liability laws concerning management of public events and facilities.
Must have valid drivers license and ability to meet UI driving requirements.
Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within three months of hire.


Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in RECREATION, SPORT MANAGEMENT/ADMINISTRATION, EXERCISE SCIENCE AND HEALTH OR RELATED FIELD.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Experience in scheduling a multipurpose facility; crowd management and risk management techniques.
Experience using computerized scheduling and resource tracking software; such as WhenToWork and R25.
High level of skill and ability in writing, organizing, delegating and time management, and interpersonal communications and administration of volunteers and student employees.
Familiarity with individual and group psychology and dynamics of group behavior as they relate to facility management for sports and athletic programs.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with participants, promoters, event organizers, athletic dept. employees and the general public.
Communicating effectively both verbally and in written format.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software; Word, Outlook and Excel programs.
Advanced customer service skills and professionalism to interface with clients, staff, management and the general public
Certified in CPR, AED and First Aid.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Ability to converse on a two-way radio, telephone and public address system; physical mobility sufficient to walk and stand for long periods and climb stairs and ladders; visual acuity to observe activities in facility; ability to lift, carry, and/or otherwise move 50 lbs.
Willingness and ability to work extended hours with a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays to meet production deadlines which may include working outdoors and in inclement weather.
