Major/Essential Functions
The Department of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech University is seeking to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank with a research emphasis that addresses the biology, ecology, host/pathogen relationships, or epidemiology of emerging zoonotic diseases. A doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, DVM, or equivalent) in fields related to zoonoses, epidemiology, or wildlife diseases is required. Post-doctoral research experience is preferred. Candidates whose research complements the expertise of current faculty, especially as it relates to vertebrate organisms and One Health initiatives are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a record of scholarship as evidenced by a strong extramural funding and publication success. In addition to supervising an independent and energetic research program that will attract extramural funding, the chosen candidate will provide research training for graduate and undergraduate students, teach subject area courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the department, college, and university through service duties that include program-building and extra-curricular activities.

Required Qualifications
Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher, a record of peer reviewed publication and/or peer-reviewed creative activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of study, to the candidates intellectual and artistic development, and to the quality of the academic enterprise; a record of professional service appropriate to the discipline; promise of growth in teaching and research or artistic and creative activity.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include: a record of research productivity indicated by publications in peer reviewed journals; potential for strong collaborative efforts within the department and with other faculty at the university; potential to attract competitive funding; potential to contribute to the teaching mission of the Department of Biological Sciences through undergraduate and graduate courses.
