Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision and direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs is responsible for providing administrative leadership, coordination and oversight for School-wide matters related to academic affairs and operations, accreditation and assessment. The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs will oversee the operation of the Academic Operations and Faculty Support offices. In addition, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs is responsible for making certain that all academic operations are aligned with the School's strategic priorities with a focus on efficiency, effectiveness, quality and the pursuit of excellence.

As a member of the School of Management Leadership Team, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will participate in policy making, planning and the evaluation of the School's activities and assist the Dean in ensuring that the University's vision, mission and values are foundational elements in guiding decision making and action within the School.

Job Responsibilities:

In concert with the Dean and other Associate Deans, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will:
Promote the research and creative work of the faculty.
Encourage faculty service and professional growth.
Oversee budgeting and funding procedures related to Academic Affairs.
Build an engaged, respectful and congenial academic community with shared goals and commitments among faculty and staff.
Manage and coordinate support and report writing for ongoing regional and specialty accreditation at the School and University level (e.g., WASC, AACSB, NASPAA, etc.).
Collaborate with the Dean, Associate Deans, department chairs and program directors in the evaluation of full-time and adjunct faculty instruction.
Oversee and provide support for academic program review as required by the School and University.
Coordinate the activities of specialized research centers and institutes.
Supervise department program assistants and take steps to enhance their professional development.

Assist the Dean and Chairs in organizing and managing Faculty Recruitment Searches.
Guide, in collaboration with the Dean, the initial orientation of new faculty and development of junior faculty.
Provide leadership, development, oversight and support for the Schools curricular and co-curricular student learning assessment efforts to ensure that the Schools assessment program is of the highest quality.
Ensure that the scheduling of classes, exams, courses and other academic activities are conducted in compliance with University policies and procedures.
Develop, update and collate School policy statements and administrative procedures as needed.
Ensure that University and Joint committees are fully and properly staffed, operate in accordance with appropriate by-laws, regulations and policies; and that accurate and transparent records are maintained and posted.
Identify and maintain relationships to enhance the Schools connection to the wider international Jesuit university network, including inter alia, the Colleagues in Jesuit Business Education Conference, Journal of Jesuit Business Education, Western Conversations and the Jesuit Commons.
Oversee adjunct faculty operations in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (Adjunct Faculty) and University policies and regulations and in cooperation with the other Associate Deans.
Maintain effective communication on academic matters within the School.
Ensure that the School of Management is in compliance with all University academic regulations.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean including attending some events in the evenings or on weekends.
Represent the School of Management at various committee meetings and provide a summary for the Dean.

Minimum Requirements:

Graduate degree required. 10+ years experience in leading or managing education programs (curriculum and student services) in a university-based business school or equivalent experience; successful experience with innovative approaches to university-based business education and research; understanding quality metrics in business education; Must demonstrate experience in leading a team in developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to achieve objectives; must be results-oriented; must have dedication to evidence-based decision-making and evaluation. Must have strong interpersonal skills and excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to build an organization and delegate effectively. Ability to prioritize. Ability to represent the School and stand in for the Dean when needed in a variety of internal and external-facing events; Commitment to efficiency, effectiveness, and excellence; Commitment to USFs Mission, Vision and Values.
