Child Development & Family Ctr Parent Coordinator
Primary Function:
The Family coordinator position is a full-time, 12 month position.
The focus of the Family coordinator position is to support ongoing Preschool for All-Expansion (PFA-E) programming focused on the support of families receiving services through the program. The Family coordinator will report to the Practicum and
PFA-E Director.
The Family coordinator will demonstrate an understanding of early childhood developmental stages, parenting concerns, community services and agencies. This individual will possess sharp communication skills and be culturally sensitive to the needs and issues of at-risk families. This individual will be responsible for coordinating parent education programs, parent-child interaction nights, and home-based family fun activities. This individual will participate in the initial screening process doing the parent-intake interview and parent education interest survey. This position will be vital in linking families with community resources and services. The Family coordinator will follow the Preschool for All operational calendar.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Family Engagement and Education: In support of Pre-School For All (PFA) program activities, the family coordinator will take primary responsibility for family engagement and education for families participating in the PFA Program.
B. Eligibility, Recruitment, and Program Support: Working with the Practicum and PFA Director, the family coordinator will manage the eligibility and recruitment processes for the program.
C. Comprehensive Services and Case Management: Working with the Practicum and PFA Director and PFA teaching staff, the Family Coordinator will provide case coordination to comprehensive services for families served by the PFA program.
D. Facilitator of the NIU Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) program: The family coordinator will work closely with Child Development and Family Center (CDFC ) Executive Director and Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Chair on the administration of the
CCAMPIS grant

E. Classroom teaching and professional mentoring:
482: Child Abuse and Neglect and HDFS 478: Child Welfare Foundations.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
1. Any one or any combination of the following types of preparation:
(a) credit for college course work in or closely related to the social or behavioral sciences
(b) work experience and/or training that provided a knowledge of human behavior by having demonstrated through public contact the ability to cope with a variety of people,(such as complaint clerk, salesperson, or receptionist) that totals 1.0 unit according to the following conversion rates:
24 semester hours of a = 1.0 unit
24 months of = 1.0 unit.
Amounts of education, experience, or training less than those listed above should be converted to decimal equivalents of 1.0 unit and added together when computing combinations of the different types of preparation.
