Position Summary
The Learning Center at Big Bend Community College is looking for dependable and punctual individuals as Childcare Aides. These positions will assist with providing childcare services to children and their families. The Learning Center hours of operations are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is a comprehensive public community college serving a large, rural district in central Washington State. BBCC's main campus is located in the City of Moses Lake (pop. 24,009) in Grant County, situated on the former Larson Air Force Base. In addition to the central campus, BBCC has learning centers in seven outlying communities that provide adult basic education, high school completion, and English Language Learning programs as gateways to college. We are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and we serve approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000.

Essential Job Duties
Childcare Helper, Category I

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Assist in providing a safe and healthy learning environment for children. Follows all state and federal regulations regarding instructional practices, fire, health, and safety standards, to include hand washing, laundry, and housekeeping practices.
  • Assist with supervision of children's activities and enters into children's free play, outdoor activities, field trips, songs, games, and other activities as assigned.
  • Assist with observations, evaluations and provide information for each child as requested by the childcare manager.
  • Follow Learning Center Childcare procedures to receive and discharge the children from the center.
  • Assist children in developing social and self-help skills (i.e. eating with children, brushing teeth, etc.).
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary environment by washing and disinfecting furniture, equipment, and toys on the posted schedule according to health regulations.
  • Assist with maintaining and completing attendance records, meal counts, and sign-in sheets.
  • Attend staff meeting, and participate in training sessions.
  • Maintain agency confidentiality regarding child and parent information.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
Childcare Helper, Category I

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must work under the supervision of a lead childcare center person.
  • Immunization record showing MMR vaccine received or proof of immunity required by the first day of work.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual and bicultural in English/Spanish, English/Ukrainian/Russian, or English/Japanese
Childcare Aide, Category II

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Possession of a current Child Development Associate (CDA), Child and Family Education Certificate of Achievement, and/or AAS degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE).
  • Previous experience in childcare setting whether in a paid position or on a volunteer basis.
  • Immunization record showing MMR vaccine received or proof of immunity required by the first day of work.
