Description

The Coordinator of Student Conduct and Student Conduct Investigator serves as member of the Office of Student Conduct. The Coordinator supports the administration of the Student Conduct process serving as an investigator for all alleged violations including Student Code of Conduct; Honor Code; Policy on Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, Dating and Domestic Violence, and Stalking; and other University polices by students and student organizations. The position serves as the liaison to the Office of Housing and Residence Life's Residence Education program by providing guidance and support to department staff serving as Hearing Officer. The position plays a vital role in the development of a campus environment in which students learn and grow into positive, productive citizens. The Coordinator responds to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, parents, and members of the community. The Coordinator may serve as the on-call Dean of Students' staff member on a rotating basis. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Student Conduct. The position may supervise or co-supervise all administrative, graduate, intern, and/or student staff within the Office of Student Conduct.

Duties include: analyzes and evaluates alleged misconduct to make recommendations on the appropriate investigation, adjudication, or closing procedures; serves as a University Hearing Officer for any alleged violations of University policy, evaluating complex information in order to render a decision utilizing the incumbent's training, professional judgment, University policy, and federal and/or state law; coordinates investigations with appropriate University and community agencies; prepares written reports of investigation findings, which include all pertinent facts, information, and evidence; assists in maintaining conduct records and database software; assists in the facilitation of educational programming related to the Student Code of Conduct, Honor Code, and other University policies and procedures for students, faculty, and staff; provides training for faculty, staff, and students on verbal de-escalation, crisis prevention, and crisis response; serves as a member of the Sexual Misconduct Response Team (SRT); serves as an alternate and ad hoc member for the Office of Student Conduct on the Case Assessment, Review, and Evaluation (CARE) Teams for Students of Concern (SOC), Behavioral Intervention (BIT), and Threat Assessment (TAT); and serves on Department, Division, and University program initiatives and committees.

  • Ability to read and interpret complex legal documents to evaluate their impact on University policy and procedures
  • Working knowledge of nondiscrimination laws and compliance regulations including Title IX, due process protections as they apply to Student Conduct proceedings, the Clery Act, VAWA and FERPA

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; and one to two years of relevant experience and/or Graduate Internship/Practicum experience in a college or university conduct process, administrative, civil rights, or law investigations, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree; three or more years of relevant experience in a college or university conduct process, administrative, civil rights, or law investigations, or related field; significant experience conducting investigations alleging discrimination based on sex, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, and sexual violence; demonstrated experience working with individuals who may be in distress and/or handling difficult interactions; demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity, as well as the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies (staff, students, faculty, parents, administrators) with diplomacy and tact; demonstrated commitment to working with multicultural populations, and an awareness of issues affecting women, minorities, and persons with disabilities; knowledge, experience, and training in handling issues related to gender-based violence; superior leadership and management skills, including interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills; and excellent presentation and training skills.
