Position Information:
Under the leadership of the Sr. Director of Development and in close collaboration with the dean of the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS), UC Riverside seeks a director of development (DoD) who will develop and execute long- and short-term strategies to grow the philanthropic pipeline and secure annual and major gifts from alumni, local community members, corporations, and statewide prospects to benefit critical capital projects, research programs, and students. The DoD will identify and manage a group of approximately 150 prospective and current donors and will travel locally and statewide frequently for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship purposes. The DoD will arrange appropriate opportunities for key faculty and academic leadership to meet with prospective donors and will work collaboratively with other University Advancement colleagues to achieve fundraising goals. The College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences' 13 departments comprise the college's three divisions led by divisional deans: Agriculture, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences. This unique structure has resulted in the need for dedicated philanthropic engagement from an incumbent who will be instrumental in planning and executing annual giving appeals and major gift strategies in collaboration with the CNAS Development team and will help raise $100M of the university's $300M "Living the Promise" campaign goal by 2020.

3 years in fundraising or a record of demonstrated achievement within a major research university environment.

Minimum Requirements:
Advanced working knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and/or throughout higher education/healthcare generally. Advanced working of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
Very strong skills in maintaining confidentiality.
Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Ability to make persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts.
Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
Advanced organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skill in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution, and strong project management skills.
Demonstrated success at meeting predetermined goals and objectives through effective program/project planning, organizations, executions and evaluation.
Proven success at fundraising by developing and implementing strategic plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences, and strategies in-line with institution goals and closing gifts (25,000+) from individuals corporations, and foundations both local and national.
Experience with exporting/importing data from or to different software applications; and operating knowledge of internet for data gathering purposes.
Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence and motivation with the proven ability to persuade colleagues and prospects.


Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to work effectively with deans and directors, academic and University Leaders and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.

Knowledge of a broad range of academic and institutional issues related to a major research university environment

Experience in coordinating and integrating fundraising efforts with alumni, media relations, and marketing professionals within advancement.

Ability to work effectively with student organizations, parent programs, and faculty.

Experience supporting capital or comprehensive campaigns in higher education.

General knowledge of various types of charitable gifts including in-kind gifts, gift securities, planned giving vehicles and gifts of real property.

Experience using Rasier's Edge or other CRM datas
