The Augusta University Libraries is seeking a Director of Collections and Resource Strategies to develop an innovative strategy and responsive approach that ensures Augusta University's teaching and research missions and patient care are met with Library resources. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Director holds a broad spectrum of responsibilities around the development, acquisition, management, preservation, and dissemination of resources as well as scholarly communications, data management, and Special Collections. The Inaugural Dean of Libraries started at Augusta University in March 2022 and seeks this key leadership role to help develop a new library organization and approach to support Augusta University on its unique and exciting growth trajectory.

Working collaboratively with the Augusta University Library's leadership team, the Director is responsible for evaluating current resource strategies and staffing, identifying prioritized needs, and developing tools and processes to support AU's diverse academic programs. The Director will partner with GALILEO peers to identify and implement new resource and discovery strategies, and determine an approach for resource investments to meet Augusta University's R1 aspirations. A successful candidate will be creative, collaborative, compassionate, and have a demonstrated commitment to an inclusive and strategic approach to developing a resource and discovery services program like no other.'

Responsibilities
Provide leadership, direction, and planning in support of the Inaugural Collections and Resource Strategy team, which includes the Libraries' Content Acquisition and Metadata unit, Scholarly Communications & Data Services, Special Collections, and Government Documents.

Operational oversight of all aspects of budget, licensing, operations, policies, and strategies in the development of Augusta University Libraries' collections.
Development of a collection development program to ensure empowerment of faculty library liaisons and service providers with a deliberate and intentional stewardship of existing library collections and institutional repository.
Creation of a collection development and discovery program to ensure strategic approach to enhancement of existing licenses and resources.
Active collaborator with other Directors to incorporate resource and discovery services into public services models.
Active collaborator and leader with GALILEO consortium and other strategic partners outside of Georgia.
Active contributor and leader with the AU Libraries leadership team, participating in strategic planning, development of new initiatives, financial planning, policy development and governance to achieve its strategic and aspirational goals.

Required Qualifications
MLS from accredited program

8+ years of relevant experience in at least two of the following areas: Collection Management, Licensing, Acquisitions, Metadata, Discovery Services, or Special Collections
Demonstrated success in inclusive and diverse approaches to resource strategies and discovery services
Demonstrated success in implementing collection development strategies that empower service providers to analyze and manage collection portfolios
Demonstrated experience in supervising, evaluating, and mentoring employees
Demonstrated success in fostering and developing collaborations and partnerships with partners outside of the organization
Demonstrated experience in publisher and vendor negotiations and collaborations
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and persuasively both orally and through writing
Knowledge of grant writing
Courageous leadership and exhibiting kindness and support of all co-workers
This position is considered administrative faculty with rank. The selected candidate will be awarded rank based on the following criteria:

Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with 3-5 years of experience

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience. Per Board of Regents (BOR) policy, Professors must have a terminal degree.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Library Administrative experience
    Record of successful grant application and administration
    Successful development and implementation of resource strategy program at comparable institution.

    Shift/Salary/Benefits
    This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

    The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

    Salary range for this position is $85,000-$100,000. Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
