The Director of Health Promotion and Wellness (formerly Health Services) will lead the university efforts to re-envision health services providing administrative leadership for the Simmons University Health Promotion and Wellness department and will be integrally involved in strategic efforts to integrate health services, health education and promotion, counseling and wellness as part of the Simmons University Integrated Health and Wellness Initiative. The Director will provide direct supervision for two nursing coordinators, two nurse practitioners and one nutritionist.

As the Chief Wellness Officer, the Director will be responsible for building bridges across units committed student health and wellbeing including partners in the Colleges of the Fenway. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director will lead the efforts to integrate the health and wellness units with the goals of fostering synergy, defining the scope of care, combining and aligning services and working with key stakeholders to identify the appropriate location for the future Integrated Health and Wellness Center. The Director will also dedicate several hours to patient care and will coordinate or participate in the rotation for staff on-call during hours when the center is closed. This is a 40 hour a week, 12-month position. The Director will also have an opportunity to teach in the College of Natural, Behavioral and Health Sciences.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Directs and provides leadership for health services, including health education, promotion and clinical services graduate and undergraduate students;
  • Develops and manages the budget including identifying opportunities for cost savings, revenue generation and budget enhancement (e.g., grant and donor support);
  • Coordinate departmental assessment including defining clear metrics, coordinating annual reporting and providing leadership for the department's pursuit of accreditation through the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care;
  • Provide leadership for programming and services that promote student health and wellbeing and provide oversight of clinical operations;
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Counseling Center, the REEF Support Center, Athletics, Recreation and Wellness and the Colleges to promote a strategic and holistic vision for health and wellbeing for students;
  • Responsible for hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff;
  • Sets annual goals and priorities for the department in alignment with the priorities within the Division of Student Affairs and the University;
  • Works closely with the consulting physician to manage emergency issues and changes necessary for exceptional patient care;
  • Serves as a critical representative for admissions and orientation events, and provides consultation to campus leadership on matters related to student health and wellness;
  • Coordinate with Student Financial Services on the Student Health Insurance program to ensure effective use of insurance and other tangential services;
  • Represent the Health Center on various campus committees.


Patient Services
  • Maintains high clinical standards and patient centered care;
  • Coordinates health education and health promotion services including topics like nutrition and body image, sexual health, wellness and healthy college living. This includes programming for graduate and undergraduate students in both online and on-ground programs;
  • Serves as the primary liaison between academic departments and health services including coordinating practical and clinical rotations and classroom-based learning experiences;
  • Work with operations team to manage and maintain the medical records system;
  • Consult and coordinate care with outside providers, including the Simmons Counseling Center staff and subspecialists at local medical centers to manage mutual patients;
  • Provide physical exams for academic and athletic clearance.


On-Call Coverage (if applicable experience)
  • In rotation with other staff NPs, provide after hours on-call (telephone) consultation during hours Health Center is closed;
  • Coordinate transport of students to appropriate medical setting with Public Safety.


Quality Improvement, Teaching and Training, Community Outreach
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of the standards of practice at the Health Center;
  • Participate in identifying and implementing quality improvement projects at the Health Center;
  • Provide clinical precepting for nurse practitioner students when possible;
  • Identify and participate in continuing education opportunities that are relevant to practicing in the college setting such as those offered by the New England College Health Association (NECHA) and the American College Health Association;
  • Serve as member of college-wide and Health Center committees.


Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years of administrative experience in a health care setting (college health program preferred);
  • Current MA Nurse Practitioner License preferred or experience in public health, health administration, counseling or social work, wellness services or another related field;
  • Experience in administration and leadership;
  • Experience in urgent/outpatient care preferred;
  • Experience working with college students, women and adolescents;
  • Experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to reducing barriers to health care;
  • Experience coordinating health education and promotion programs or outreach services;
  • Demonstrated experience using medical records systems including mining data from these systems to support continuous improvement efforts;
  • Experience setting goals and providing a vision for health and wellbeing and identifying metrics for success;
  • Organized and able to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Experience with revenue generation, donor interactions or grant writing preferred;
  • Experience with health insurance providers, billing and defining the scope of service;
  • Advanced knowledge of budget/fiscal related processes;
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and practice of supervision and management;
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a wide range of constituents;
  • Demonstrated ability to build healthy communities of well-being;
  • Experience with faculty/staff wellbeing is a plus;
  • Experience with fundraising, grant writing and identifying appropriate sources of revenue;
  • Highly collaborative spirit with passion for working with students in a university environment;
  • Experience working with academic departments for interprofessional partnerships;
  • Experience working with community and/or corporate partners.
