Director of Title IX

Position Summary
The director serves as University Title IX Coordinator. Responsible for ensuring that the University of the Incarnate Word is compliant with all requirements under Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972, the Clery Act, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Campus SAVE Act and local, state and federal laws addressing harassment, sexual assault, and sexual misconduct; coordinating regulatory compliance in other related areas such as VAWA, Clery Act, Title VI, and Title VII and associated mandatory reporting; managing oversight of University compliance efforts to comply with legal and regulatory obligations in support for the University mission, vision, and policies; and providing centralized support for the University's efforts to comply with it's legal, regulatory, and ethical obligations with respect to local, state and federal laws.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Clery Act and Title IX requirements.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information/communication. Effective project management, organizational, and analytical skills. Self-starter with initiative, ability to operate independently. Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.

Excellent writing skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish a rapport with a diverse range of community members including students, employees and law enforcement are essential, as are knowledge of state and federal laws regarding discrimination, harassment and other related issues. Ability to tactfully engage persons in dialogue on sensitive matters.

Demonstrate ability to build relationships and establish collaborative partnerships across the institution and peer institutions with diverse constituencies (staff, students, faculty, parents, administrators, etc.) with diplomacy and tact.

Experience and/or training with Title IX, discrimination, and harassment investigations, resolutions, and prevention. Experience in participating in complaint and grievance processes and hearings. Experience in developing and conducting training and education programs.

Demonstrated analytical experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state laws and regulations related to discrimination and harassment based on all protected categories and all university community members, including Title IX, as well as Title VI, Title VII, ADEA, ADA/Section 504, the Clery Act, and VAWA.

Knowledge of best practices as they relate to institutions of higher education compliance with Title IX and VAWA.

Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills. Ability to meet deadlines.

Advanced experience working with professional theories and practices within the compliance and regulatory fields.

Detailed working knowledge of compliance related, employment and student focused laws and regulations.

Required Education
Bachelors degree required

Required Work Experience
3-5 years of experience in Title IX, human resources, legal, student conduct, student life, or similar field with investigation/complaint resolution/policy administration responsibilities and professional experience in conducting sensitive and confidential investigations, sexual abuse/misconduct training, preferably in a higher education environment, is required.

Preferred Qualifications
Juris Doctor or equivalent is strongly preferred.Previous experience in compliance related role preferred.

Higher education experience is strongly preferred.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Must have a valid Texas drivers license and be insurable by UIW insurance carrier.

Work Hours
Normal work hours of 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. with occasional nights and weekends as needed.

Must respond promptly and effectively when notified of reported sexual misconduct violations.

Physical Demands
Typical office work environment. Ability to handle conflict and stressful situations effectively.
