The role of the Field Liaison is to ensure the integrity of the field education placement, to serve as a resource to agency field instructors, and to help students achieve their educational goals in the field placement.

Liaisons' responsibilities include:
  • Be responsible for up to 15 MSW interns at a time.
  • Be familiar with CSWE Accreditation standards, competencies, practice behaviors, Simmons School of Social Work practice curriculum, the Field Education Manual, and SW@Simmons Student Handbook.
  • Effectively navigate Adobe Connect and the Learning Management System and consult with Faculty Support at 2U as needed.
  • Build supportive relationships with students by conducting a virtual introductory check-in with students at the start of field placement.
  • Build supportive relationships with field instructors by conducting a virtual check-in/introductory phone call to the field instructor at the start of placement, offering ongoing support and consultation when needed.
  • Set a tone of encouragement by offering to be available outside of the required meeting times. Field Liaisons are expected to be responsive to students and field instructors by scheduling meetings convenient to the students'/field instructors' schedule, and by returning messages within two working days.
  • Remain in close contact with students and field instructors via phone, email, and Adobe Connect throughout the term of field education.
  • Per term, conduct one virtual meeting with each student prior to the field visit to review caseload, supervision, and overall learning.
  • Schedule additional visits as needed to mediate between students and field instructors if concerns cannot be resolved directly between them.
  • Review and provide feedback to students on all field assignments.
  • Assist students in preparing for advanced field placements (for foundation students), by supporting the student in developing learning goals and providing resume review prior to placement process if needed.
  • Offer graduating students the opportunity to discuss career plans if desired.
  • Prepare and attend Educational Planning Committee meetings to address field concerns. Complete required documentation following Education Planning Committee meetings.
  • Determine the pass/fail or incomplete grade for field education each term.
  • Effectively navigate Adobe Connect and the Learning Management System and consult 2U Faculty Support as needed.
  • Facilitate six 90-minute virtual field seminars that accompany asynchronous material of The Virtual Guide to Field Education for Students and Field Instructors for students in the foundation term. Up to 15 students per section.
  • Prepare agenda and content for field seminars.
  • Review responses from students to questions within the asynchronous units.

Previous experience required:
  • 3-5 years supervision experience of MSW student interns
  • MSW + highest level of licensure in the state where applicant practices
