The Department of Human Services at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) invites applications for a 10-month full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2019. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate through their teaching, research, or service that they can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our department, college, university, and community.

The Department is interdisciplinary and offers a Bachelor of Science degree with several tracks including mental health, substance abuse treatment, gerontology, elementary education, domestic violence, and administration and organizational practice.

Position
The area of specialty is open. As an accredited Alcohol and Drug Studies higher education program by the California Association for Drug/Alcohol Educators (CAADE), the Department is especially interested in candidates with both clinical and research expertise in the field of addiction. The primary professional responsibilities include the following:

  • Teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Engaging in scholarship
  • Serving the department, college, university, community, and the profession. For example, mentoring students, participating in campus and system-wide committees, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participating in traditional academic functions.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in a human services related field (e.g., psychology, counseling, social work, family studies, etc.) from an accredited institution. ABD's may apply but must show evidence that the degree will be completed by the time of appointment;
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work effectively and collegially with a culturally diverse campus community;
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to teach students with diverse backgrounds at the undergraduate level; and
  • Evidence of the ability to conduct independent research.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical and research expertise in the field of addiction;
  • Familiar with the CAADE accredited Alcohol and Drug Studies higher education programs; and
  • Licensed or licensed eligible in California in the mental health field.

Rank & Salary
This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor (10-month academic year). Salary is competitive and commensurate with rank, experience and qualifications. Intramural research grants, moving expenses, start-up funds, and reduced teaching load may be available.
