Position Information
In the Heart of Inland Southern California, UC Riverside is located on nearly 1,200 acres near Box Springs Mountain in Southern California; the park-like campus provides convenient access to the vibrant and growing Inland region. UCR Extension is the continuing and professional education division if the University of California, Riverside offering over 80 professional and certificate programs to domestic and international students to mostly working adults. The academic program portfolio is currently focused in the following areas: Education and Credential programs, Business and Management certificate programs, Technology and Engineering certificate programs, and Healthcare and Human Services certificate programs. UCR Extension also hosts a large and highly successful International Education program. Reporting to the Director of Academic Services, the Instructional Design and Quality Control Specialist helps shape curriculum content into instructional modules to achieve academic goals. Is responsible for designing instructional content for distance learning, creating interactive media content, building content modules in the Canvas platform aimed at encouraging student engagement. Uses multiple software applications in support of academic and professional programs at University Extension. This position is responsible for the interactivity, engagement and content quality control of Canvas distance learning system. Works with a high degree of collaboration and diplomacy in problems analysis and solves content or delivery related issues with creative solutions. Candidate finalist for this position will be required to provide work samples of implemented courses to be taken into consideration during the selection process.


Minimum Requirements
Thorough knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.
Thorough knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to courses (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.).
Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong collaboration and negotiation skills.
Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems.
Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
Thorough knowledge of applying adult learning theories and educational methodologies.
Thorough knowledge of functional area and understands how work within one course may impact work being done on other courses or in other areas.
Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.
Knowledge to conduct appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training.
Advanced level skills in application of planning, resourcing and monitoring of effective design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions to support the organization.
Must be familiar with various learning styles in a continuing education environment.
Must be skilled in creation of multimedia content, including interactive learning activities, video, and audio components.


Preferred Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact online course development.
