Position Summary
The Library Assistant for Public Services works under the general supervision of the Director of Library Services for the School of Osteopathic Medicine. This position is responsible for performing circulation duties, which include charging and discharging printed materials, maintaining a collection of reserve materials, processing holds and recalls, assisting with interlibrary loan/document delivery, shelving, facilities and basic equipment maintenance in the library as well as other tasks which involve networking with users for access to collections and services. The position requires some clerical work for the Director. The position also requires contact with the public and may occasionally require varied work schedules, to include working evenings and weekends.

Circulation/Access Services

Description of Job Duties
Check-in/out of library materials; verify user status; maintain and circulate printed reserve items, shelve physical items. Create on-the-fly reserve pieces from personal items provided by instructors (articles, books, realia) in accordance with established UIW library policies and copyright law; fulfill tasks in Alma associated with holds, recalls, etc., generate fulfillment reports upon request. Work closely with Mabee Library circulation staff to ensure that procedures and practices are consistent. Provide input on the development of circulation policies. Perform necessary clerical tasks. Interlibrary Loan

Market and assist users with interlibrary loan functionality. Work with the Mabee library and other UIW Health Science libraries to fill requests for documents located at other UIW libraries and/or check on the status of non-UIW owned ILL requests for SOM faculty and students. Job Duties

Facilities and Equipment Maintenance

Description of Job Duties
Opens and/or closes the library when needed. Monitor library security points, address general facilities concerns using School Dude software to report problems that cannot be managed locally. Maintain equipment and perform basic troubleshooting of the librarys printers, computers, scanners and AV equipment and instruct users on the proper operation of equipment. Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of library services databases and discovery tools. Able to troubleshoot minor problems with copiers, printers, and scanners. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Able to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
High School Diploma or GED

Required Work Experience
Two years related experience working in an academic library in a public service/customer service/access service capacity. Familiar with library services, databases and catalogs. Working knowledge of ILL and mainstream computer software such as Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications
Library Assistant certification or Bachelors degree in a related area. Experience in a health sciences library. Familiarity with ALMA library management system.

Work Hours
Normal work hours are: Varied schedule to be determined by Director. Evening and weekend hours when necessary.

Physical Demands
Able to lift at least 20 lbs. and push book trucks weight at least 100 lbs
