Math Specialist, Tutoring/Academic Support



Job Description

Work one-on-one with CSN students who would like to discuss his or her math course work. The Specialist will actively engage college students in conversations about their work that help establish an individual approach to studying and performing well within their coursework.

Assist the Assistant Director in researching and implementing best practice trends, guide less experience staff members, develop teaching or training materials for multiple learning styles for both staff use and students, such as handouts, study materials, or online resources, and conduct both college and community-wide outreach fairs and workshops.

Provide administrative support including assisting the Coordinator and Director with maintaining schedules, verifying staff time submissions, maintaining center cleanliness and organization, and tracking, reporting, and analyzing usage data.

Participate in ongoing professional development such as individual research and publication, CAPE Sessions and other CSN training and development opportunities, membership or participation in affiliations, and state and/or nationwide conference attendance or participation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field from a regionally accredited college/university; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year experience tutoring math in a tutoring setting at a higher education institution.
  • One year experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent math skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with diverse students, faculty, and staff.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in math intensive field from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • Experience tutoring math in a community college tutoring center.
  • Experience mentoring learning assistants/tutors in a community college setting.
  • Experience coaching community college students on study skills.


The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with the Coordinator and Director, faculty and instructors, coworkers, and students both orally and through written correspondence and report to the Coordinator on a daily and weekly basis
  • Ability to complete tasks assigned by the Coordinator in a timely manner
  • Strong leadership skills to lead and guide less experienced staff or peers
  • Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent technological skills
  • Administrative skills such as assisting with coordinating training, payroll, scheduling, and record keeping
  • Demonstrated ability in locating, evaluating, and documenting reliable and credible sources in multiple formats
  • Proficient to Mastery knowledge of Mathematics and how to use various resources
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Starting Salary Range information:

Administrative Faculty B

The minimum starting salary is $ 39,123. The successful candidate may be placed above the minimum of the range based on education and experience.

*This position is contingent upon ongoing and available funding.
