Position Summary:

Postdoctoral Research Position in Biological Imaging and Single-Cell Analysis
University of Idaho

A postdoctoral research position is available in the Department of Physics at the University of Idaho. The primary objective of this position is to develop and apply an optical bioimaging instrument to quantify both enzyme and metabolome dynamics in single living cells. To meet this objective at low phototoxicity and enhanced spatiotemporal resolution, the project sets out to integrate different imaging modalities into a single microscope. This bioimaging strategy is expected to enable both fundamental understanding and important engineering insight into optimizing the production of renewable and low-cost biofuel precursors.

The applicant must hold a Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. A strong background in optics and peer-reviewed publications are required. Ideally, the candidate will have additional expertise in imaging and adaptive optics. Expertise in single-cell biology is not required, but the position offers outstanding educational and research opportunities to this end.

Responsibilities will include development and execution of experiments, data analysis, manuscript preparation, presentation of results, and working with collaborators and other members of an interdisciplinary research team at the University of Idaho and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Applicants must be methodical, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and possess very good oral and written communication skills. The position will remain open until filled, and the application review process will start on November 26th. Yearly salary is commensurate with experience, ranging from $40,000 to $48,000.
