Position Information:
The University of California, Riverside is one of ten universities within the prestigious University of California system and is widely recognized as one of the most ethnically diverse research universities in the nation. In August of 2013, UCR opened California's first new public medical school in four decades. The Research Compliance Manager plays a focal role in maintaining the standard of ethical excellence in research at this campus. The Research Integrity unit consists of the Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Bio-Safety Committee (IBC), Promoting Objectivity in Research (PRO), and Stem Cell Research Oversight (SCRO). This position is responsible for maintaining campus compliance with several Federal and State mandates, as well as associated statutes, regulations, and policies. The Research Compliance Manager leads a team of specialists through strong leadership, mentoring, and providing professional development opportunities when possible. This position requires the use of excellent judgement in making risk-based decisions that affect programs or the campus as a whole. The Research Compliance Manager is charged with maintaining standards that are essential for the conduct of legal and ethical research at this campus and will work with other units, such as, Sponsored Programs Administration and the Office of Technology Commercialization where appropriate. Under general direction of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development, the Research Compliance Manager oversees the management and administration for all research compliance committees including but not limited to: Social Behavior IRB, Clinical/Biomedical IRB, IACUC, IBC, PRO, SCRO. The Research Compliance Manager fulfills federal mandates to ensure a regulatory compliant research program to protect the public's welfare, ensure transparency at the institution, and to protect the rights and welfare of research participants. This is one of the most significant research-related positions on campus because of the legal and financial risks for the University. The Research Compliance Manager has oversight for research compliance, including areas like human subject protections, as they relate to federal, state, and local regulations and policies. As the lead for responsible research conduct, this position also has management responsibility for effective interpretation of the University of California Conflict of Interest Code (as promulgated by the California Fair Political Practices Commission), coordination of compliance standards for the Riverside campus (as defined by University conflict of interest policy) and monitoring of employee codes of conduct related to conflict of interest. This position provides guidance to Vice Chancellors, Deans, and Department Chairs/Organized Research Unit Directors and ensures effective coordination and cooperation of compliance with legal requirements as required by policy. The salary range for this position will be between $147,888 to $166,500 per year.
