Job Summary
We are currently seeking a full-time Research Assistant to assist with a federally-funded project which seeks to increase retention rates of substance use treatment among those with chronic pain. The Research Assistant will be responsible for recruitment, screening, baseline, and follow-up of study participants. These events will take place in-person across the state of Michigan and over the phone. The candidate will have the unique opportunity to receive ongoing supervision and be part of a large team with diverse research experience.

Responsibilities*
The Research Assistant will be responsible for participant recruitment and screening, obtaining informed consent, and conducting drug screens. Other tasks associated with this position include: scheduling and conducting baseline and follow-up assessments in the community and over the phone, data entry, updating study database, completing daily paperwork, preparing materials, attending study meetings, and additional tasks as needed. Travel to clinics and community sites across Michigan will be necessary. Daily access to a vehicle is required - miles will be reimbursed. As needed, the Research Assistant will perform risk assessments and provide brief supportive referral.

Required Qualifications*
Excellent organizational skills, professionalism, attention to detail, ability to work independently but also within a team, personable, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines are all a must.

The candidate must be able to work independently for extended periods while receiving feedback and guidance from study coordinators and faculty investigators.

Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team and ability to adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines are also a necessity.

The candidate for this position must be able to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends, and personal reliable transportation is a must- travel will be a large amount of the recruitment process as this project will have participants from all across the state.

Desired Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Health, Psychology, or a similar discipline, with evidence of course work or experience in Research Methods and clinical experience preferred. Experience using MS Excel, Access, and REDCap are preferred. Previous experience conducting health-related research and/or with substance use populations is preferred, but not required. The job will require flexibility in order to meet project deadlines and goals; therefore, a strong ability to problem solve is highly desired.

Work Schedule
M-F, may require some evenings and weekends

Under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
