Position Summary:
The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and conduct innovative and comprehensive research (40%) and Extension (60%) programs emphasizing the biology and ecology of weeds and their interactions with crops to develop sustainable weed management strategies. Research and Extension programs will provide leadership in Idaho cropping systems and involve weeds of different crops, including sugar beets, dry beans, wheat, barley, potatoes, corn, alfalfa and other crops grown in the region. The successful candidate is expected to participate in team-directed research, working collaboratively with other faculty across the state. Faculty collaborations may include those in the Departments of Plant Sciences, other UI departments, the UI Center for Agriculture, Food and the Environment, and both area and county extension faculty within. Research emphasis areas will include crop production and may also include plant biotechnology. The successful candidate will establish a national reputation for excellence through publishing in refereed journals, presenting research seminars, participating in professional meetings, and acquiring grant funding to support a research program and Extension program. Participation in graduate student education and mentoring is required. The successful candidate will serve as a resource person for specific weed science/management questions from Extension educators, crop advisers, other agricultural professionals and the public. Extension responsibilities include creating Extension publications and Extension programs that involve commodity groups and other stakeholders producing crops grown in southern Idaho. Technology transfer via programming, such as workshops, field days, and grower/industry conferences, are an expectation of the job. This position will be located at the Kimberly Research and Extension Center, outside of Twin Falls Idaho.


Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Weed Science, Plant Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Physiology or related scientific discipline that demonstrates research competency to provide innovative and sustainable strategies for managing weeds.
Demonstrated experience conducting field-based experiments in weed management and familiarity with plant physiology research.
Experience creating and delivering Extension/ outreach presentations.
Experience creating and delivering presentations at scientific meetings.
Planning and conducting research and reporting results in refereed scientific journals and other peer-reviewed publications.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with non-scientific audiences.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.


Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of success in securing competitive funding.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in multi-disciplinary research and/or Extension faculty teams.
Demonstrated ability to manage staff.
Experience writing Extension publications and popular press articles.
Demonstrated experience with agronomic or horticultural crops.
Familiarity with implementation of precision agricultural technologies
