Synopsis of Role:
The Senior Career Coach will serve as a subject matter expert for the coaching profession. This individual will support a wide range of industries, stay abreast of relevant changes in the job market, provide Emotional Intelligence assessments to Doctoral students, represent Career Services at events, serve as a mentor to staff and manage para professionals. The Senior Career Coach will also participate in the training and mentoring of department new hires.
Essential Functions:
- Provides prospects, students and alumni with an even mix of both exploratory and industry specific career coaching through phone, email, individual sessions, group sessions and in classroom settings;
- Assists students and alumni in the development of a personalized career action plan that consists of long and short-term goals; taking on, at times, cases which require additional support and attention. Respond to communication within the required SLA;
- Engages and prepares students and alumni in a wide range of industries for events, such as encouraging attendance, conducting targeted resume reviews and hosting workshops;
- Provides guidance by reviewing resumes, conducting mock interviews and recommending specific resources based on the individuals needs;
- Attends and participates at in-person and virtual events, serving as a mentor to department staff in attendance;
- Stays abreast of national and local initiatives, hiring trends and industry expectations regarding employment searching;
- As requested or directed, mentors coaching staff on how to improve the quality of their relationships;
- Participates in the training of new career coaching staff, serving as the quality assurance reviewer for emails and resumes during initial 90-days and collaborating with the manager on providing feedback;
- Manages department involvement in advertising, preparing and serves as the University POC for special hiring programs such as PMF and WRP.
- Oversees the federal WRP hiring program to include coordinating, advertising and assisting interested parties;
- Becomes knowledgeable of, and certified in, Emotional Intelligence; utilize training to engage students and faculty inside, and outside, of the classroom;
- Assists in assigning daily workflow and tasks to coaching team as directed by management;
- Serves as manager to para professional staff, conducting interviews, training, performance reviews, and providing ongoing feedback;

Assists with career exploration to include researching and developing resources associated with those activities; - Other duties as needed to support the mission of the university, the student body and alumni.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in a related field preferred;
- Minimum of two years' Career Advising experience required;
- Current career counseling or coaching certification required;
- Specialized interest based assessment certification (EQi) preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Standard office environment;
- Ability to efficiently work remotely;
- Ability to access APUS VPN for telecommuting;
- Travel for special events with advanced notice as required;
- Ability to work evenings and weekends with advanced notice as required.
