Student Engagement and Outreach Librarian

The Pennsylvania State University Libraries invite applications and nominations for the position of Student Engagement and Outreach Librarian at the Robert E. Eiche Library, Penn State Altoona. The campus library seeks a proactive, enthusiastic, and creative individual to engage and collaborate with faculty and students around current and emerging technologies for learning and research. Duties of this position include providing an introduction to the services and resources in both the physical and online library spaces for our first year students; using exhibitions, public programming, social networking, and other innovative techniques to engage the student community; and identifying and promoting the use of emerging technologies throughout the campus community. Other duties include reference services (both virtual and in-person). This is a 36-week fixed-term multi-year faculty librarian position. Some evening and/or weekend work is required. Requirements: Requires a MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program or an equivalent graduate degree in a related field; at least one year post-graduate experience in an academic setting; demonstrated knowledge of academic and library applications; strong knowledge of print and electronic information resources; experience using social media for outreach; a strong commitment to diversity, equity, respect and inclusion, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Environment: Penn State Altoona is located in Altoona, Pennsylvania, one hour from the University Park campus. The region is the largest retail area between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh and offers many cultural, sports, and recreational resources, as well as modest living costs and affordable housing. The 90,000 volume campus library has recently been renovated and serves as a gateway to the resources of the Penn State University Libraries system. The campus offers 21 baccalaureate degree programs and 6 associate degree programs. Penn State Altoona also offers the first two years of study leading to more than 275 majors offered throughout the Penn State system. There are approximately 3,500 students. Compensation and Benefits: Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience. Faculty may be asked to travel as official representatives of the Libraries to certain events and those trips are reimbursed at full cost within limits established by the University.
