General:
The Department of Music in the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Fresno seeks applicants for a tenure-track, academic year position as an Assistant Professor in Trombone and Euphonium. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate students, conduct scholarly and applied research, and engage in service-related activities. Primary teaching responsibilities and research interests will be in the area of Trombone and Euphonium with a secondary focus in Music Theory and Ear Training. Other teaching responsibilities will be assigned based on background and departmental needs. Active recruitment of trombone and euphonium students is expected. The successful candidate is expected to maintain a positive relationship with music educators in the region, including active participation in local, regional, state, and national music organizations. Typical workload is 15 weighted teaching units (WTUs) per semester, generally comprising 12 WTUs of instruction and 3 WTUs of non-instructional responsibilities. Service learning, outcomes, and assessments are important components of the university curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.

Qualifications:
Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.):
1. An earned doctorate (D.M.A., Ph.D., Ed.D.) in Music is required. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/1/2020). The masters and/or the doctorate must be in Trombone or Low Brass Performance.

Required Experience:
1. Documented teaching experience of trombone and euphonium at the undergraduate level or equivalent.
2. Active as an accomplished professional trombone and /or euphonium artist with demonstrable expertise and experience as a soloist and ensemble member.
3. A well-articulated agenda for research, scholarship, and creative activity in trombone and/or euphonium.
4. Demonstrable organizational and communication skills necessary to excel in an academic setting and recruit trombone and euphonium students.
5. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Experience:
1. Documented teaching experience of trombone and euphonium at the undergraduate level or equivalent for a minimum of two years.
2. Documented teaching experience of music theory and/or ear-training at the undergraduate level.
3. Documented performance and coaching experience of chamber brass at the undergraduate level or secondary school.
4. Documented performance and teaching experience of jazz trombone and/or euphonium at the undergraduate level or secondary school.
5. Active participation in local, regional, state, national, and/or international music organizations such as, but not limited to the International Trombone Association and music education organizations.

2. four unedited video links as follows: 1) 5 minutes of solo performance; 2) 5 minutes of teaching a trombone lesson; 3) 5 minutes of teaching a theory class, ear-training, or a class in a musically-related area; 4) 5 minutes of brass chamber music or jazz performance.
