College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class. The MCG educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, with regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state, and two four-year campuses located in Athens (in partnership with the University of Georgia) and in Savannah (in partnership with Georgia Southern University). MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provide more than 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to approximately 575 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary

Performs advanced administrative and technical work in support of research initiatives in an assigned laboratory or clinical research unit. Participates in research data collection and documentation within FDA guidelines and research institute protocols; develops and evaluations new research techniques and procedures. Performs a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytological, microscopic, histological, surgical, clinical and/or dissection procedures.



Responsibilities

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Perform general molecular biology experiments including microscopy, flow cytometry, PCR, cloning, western blot, immunohistochemistry, etc.; Produce and purify experimental viruses, including lentivirus and oncolytic virus. Maintain cell culture including tumor cells and immune cells, perform in vitro manipulation, including transfection, infection and coculture; Plasmid preparation, lentiviral vector production, etc.

Set up mouse breeding cages, wean, make inventory of breeding mice; Mouse genotype; Mouse transfer to the researcher.

Tumor inoculation; Mouse surgery; Treatments with anti-tumor agents; Monitor tumor growth; IVIS imaging, MRI scan; Collect specimen from mice and perform downstream analysis.

Make inventory of lab supply; Order research supply; Stock lab supply in cell culture room and lab space; Cleaning and autoclave.

Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.



Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.

OR

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Cancer drug development. Experience with Oncolytic viruses.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Excellent customer service, interpersonal, multi-tasking, organizational and verbal/written communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and other computer software/databases.

Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines despite often interruptions, maintain confidentiality, keep accurate records and make independent decisions.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

Pay Band: B8

Salary: $45,400/annually - $48,000/annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
