Job Summary

The Business Manager for Academic Planning and Operations supports the College of Arts and Humanities by managing financial processes and aligning operational decisions with academic priorities, especially around Core curriculum delivery. This role is responsible for overseeing budget activity, analyzing instructional needs, and coordinating with department Chairs and the Dean to ensure strategic use of financial and human resources. The manager serves as a key liaison between academic and administrative units, ensuring the college's resources support high-quality instruction, effective course scheduling, and compliance with university policies.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Core curriculum planning and scheduling across departments in consultation with Chairs and Dean
  • Monitor enrollment trends, instructional needs, and scheduling data to optimize resource allocation
  • Manage college-level operational budgets, instructional spending, and adjunct hiring allocations
  • Prepare detailed financial reports and projections to guide decision-making and strategic planning
  • Track course coverage models, monitor instructional efficiency, and advise on resource needs
  • Ensure compliance with university policies related to budgeting, hiring, procurement, and reporting
  • Assist in preparing proposals and justifications related to instructional funding and staffing
  • Develop internal systems to manage course-related budgets, teaching loads, and adjunct support
  • Support the Dean's Office with academic operational planning, accreditation-related data, and ad hoc reports
  • Liaise with University departments and support financial system development initiatives
  • Ensure cost control, loss prevention, accurate documentation, and record-keeping compliance


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Higher Education, Public Administration, or a related field

Required Experience
  • Three (3) or more years of progressively responsible experience in budget coordination or academic administration


Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in higher education, especially within a college-level unit.
  • Experience coordinating general education or Core curriculum offerings


Proposed Salary

$55,126 - $70,307

This is a exempt position paid on a monthly basis.

  • Strong financial and analytical skills with experience managing complex budgets

  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relation skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Proficiency with Excel, Banner, Workday Adaptive, and/or similar university finance or academic systems
