Job Summary:

The University of Colorado seeks a full-time, in-person, Research Services Principal Laboratory Sciences Professional to work in the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Nutrition at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. The overall goal of this position is to provide support to the Pediatric Nutrition Lab through expert guidance on analytical methods and to collaborate with the research team within the day-to-day operations of the laboratory and personnel.

This position will be filled by a person who has experience in a variety of analytical methods, including inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, atomic absorption spectroscopy, liquid chromatography, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and the Quansys-2 for the analysis of micronutrients and other biological analytes as biomarkers for human nutrition studies. Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques, including the use of ICP-MS, AAS, UPLC, and immunoassays required for research projects
  • Maintain equipment
  • Develop and validate new methodologies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training manuals, and process flows for biomarker analyses and create and implement procedures and quality improvement initiatives, as needed
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results
  • Perform experiments and tabulate data for written reports, oral presentations, and synthesis by other team members
  • Ability to respond to unexpected events outside of typical work hours, i.e., electrical outages threatening the integrity of samples
  • Perform day-to-day laboratory activities in alignment with the guidelines of Good Laboratory Practice
  • Report to the Section of Nutrition Faculty Leadership at regularly scheduled meetings
  • Perform instrument and ultracold freezer maintenance tasks regularly
  • Maintain sample management system
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Collate data and communicate results for written and oral reports and synthesis by other team members
  • Contribute to portions of grants and manuscripts that pertain to laboratory methodologies and quality control/assurance
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert and authority in the area(s) of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, atomic absorption spectrometry, and immunoassays
  • Communicate with collaborators regarding sample processing, timelines, data, problem solving, and other concerns

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or a related field
  • Three (3) years of professional-level research experience using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and immunoassays

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or a related field
  • Four (4) years of professional-level research experience using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and immunoassays

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Expert knowledge of laboratory techniques, including safety procedures and techniques
  • Expert ability to analyze and solve complex problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with a team with a wide range of training, experience, and backgrounds, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • Expert-level knowledge of the use of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $62,606 to $79,635.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
