THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Speech Language Pathologist serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team, leads and represents the disciplines of speech-language pathology for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Center of Developmental Disabilities (CDD).


Responsibilities
  1. Provides diagnostic evaluations and therapeutic interventions for children with or suspected having communication disorders and/or developmental disabilities.
  2. Reviews intake paperwork and records, creation of written report, billing for services, and feedback to family upon completion.
  3. Supervises speech-language pathology graduate students in diagnostics and treatment as part of their clinical practica.
  4. Assists with interviewing student candidates and supervision of training experience per the hourly requirements of the home institution.
  5. Represents the mission and interests of the CDD on at least one statewide or national disability-related board, council or organizational workgroup.
  6. Provides technical assistance and training to professionals inside and outside of UTHSC, advocacy and service agencies, various levels of government departments and agencies, and members of the community.
  7. Provides lectures, presentations, and technical assistance in the areas of speech-language pathology to an array of audiences including students, faculty, university staff, and other community stakeholders.
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
EDUCATION: Master's Degree in Speech Pathology. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Experience working with young children and their families and conducting diagnostic evaluations. (Minimum of two (2) years of related experience preferred).

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Licensed or license eligible as a speech language pathologist in the State of Tennessee.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Skilled in the provision of diagnostic evaluation services in speech-language pathology.
  • Good interpersonal skills with co-workers, students, and community members.
  • Skilled in working with parents and families of children with communication disorders and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledgeable in the ASHA code of ethics and best practices in the field.
  • Good public speaking and written skills.
  • Knowledge of/familiarity with insurance and billing practices and database management.
