Specific Duties:

The Dean of Students Office (DSO) at Santa Clara University is currently hiring Student Assistants to serve as the first point of contact at our front desk. In this role, you will welcome visitors, answer phone inquiries, and assist with various administrative tasks as needed.

DSO is dedicated to supporting the well-being and personal development of our students, addressing both their welfare needs and conduct matters. Our mission is grounded in the Ignatian values of Santa Clara University, emphasizing respect for each student as an individual and fostering their growth in both academic and personal pursuits.

This position offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a supportive campus environment while gaining valuable experience in student services. Student Assistants will also have a unique opportunity to have a voice in certain Student Life initiatives and programs.

Essential duties and Responsibilities:
  • Reception duties, including setting appointments, greeting and directing visitors, answering phones, taking messages, and attending to department email.
  • Provide student input on projects, programs, services that are housed within DSO as directed.
  • Research current topics with/in higher education that impact student life as directed.
  • Assist the staff in the Dean of Students Office on a variety of tasks including errands, generating documents and spreadsheets, and making copies.
  • Assist the staff in the Dean of Students Office in creating marketing material in both print and digital platforms using Terminal 4, Canva, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. Training will be provided, where needed, on the use of requisite software/services.
  • Assist various departments in the division of Student Life with disseminating information to staff, faculty, and students.
  • Other tasks as assigned.


Reports to: Vanessa Perez, Administrative Associate for the Dean of Students Office (vperez2@scu.edu)

Qualifications:
  • Be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Be in good conduct standing with the university
  • Must be an Undergraduate student
  • Federal Work Study is required
  • A willingness to learn new skills either via personal research or by instruction.
  • Knowledge of marketing/design concepts preferred, not required.
  • Technical skills in order of preference, but not required include Terminal 4, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva.
  • Adhere to all policies as outlined in the Student Handbook.
