Job Description
The Coordinator of Student Career Engagement provides leadership to the Career Peer Advisor program and supports student career development through engaging workshops, collaborative programming, and career coaching. The role also manages communications, oversees initiatives like the career closet and headshot program, and develops career-related resources.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership to the Unit's Career Peer Advisor program including the selection, training, monitoring/supervision, and ongoing professional development of a group of undergraduate students to offer credible career advice and service to others through a peer educator model
- Provides a willingness to step in and augment services (escalating from career peers or referral from other staff members) is expected
- Oversees the operation of the career closet and headshot programs and appointments, leveraging career peers' skills and capacity to maximize functionality and impact
- Performs research, compiles, and shares career information resources useful in student career decision making including, but not limited to, interest alignment, value clarification, professional document development, personal brand and/or profile optimization, gaining experience, networking, articulating strengths, and evaluating options
- Collaborates with student-facing units to promote the value and purpose of career development as an important component of the student experience through sharing knowledge, training, and collaborative programming
- Creates and executes engaging workshops and programs to meet the needs of students and drives student career engagement, assessing impact and adjusting as necessary
- Proposes, develops, executes, and assesses broad communication efforts inviting students to participate in components of career development programming offered by the Unit, by campus constituents, or in the surrounding community - communication channels include, but are not limited to, social media, print resources, direct e-mails, website, presentations, and workshops
- Provides individualized career coaching to students through scheduled appointments, drop-ins, and small group sessions - topics may include career exploration, resume and cover letter development, internship and job search strategies, graduate school preparation, interview techniques, and use of career assessment tools
- Fosters a student-centered coaching environment that supports academic, cultural, and career interests
- Maintains accurate notes and records of student interactions in accordance with office procedures
- Maintains awareness of national and regional trends in higher education, career services, and professional development, and the resulting impact on UTC's population of students, academic programs, and alumni
- Participates in various local, state, regional, and national organizations to align programming, leverage benchmarks, and increase the visibility of UTC
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Knowledge of college student development models, especially evidenced-based models associated with identity development, career readiness, and transition
- Knowledge of contemporary communication skills to include, but not limited to, digital, social media print resources, and verbal presentations
- Broad knowledge of career development interventions and models
- Ability to adapt and advocate for career development in a variety of settings and for a wide range of audiences
- Ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders resulting in deeper advisory and/or professional relationships
- Ability to organize workflows and processes
- Ability to gather data/input to conduct needs assessments
- Skilled in program and/or content development and delivery
- Prior supervisory experience (especially supervising college students or college-aged individuals)

Qualifications
Minimum: Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field; two years of relevant experience, with a minimum of one-year professional experience delivering content, training material, or educational programs within either a college university, human resources, organizational development unit, or other customer serving environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred: Master's degree in a relevant field; two or more years of professional experience developing and delivering content, training material, or educational concepts within a career services environment, student advising, or internal organizational development capacity; professional experience in human resources, talent acquisition, or training outside of Higher Education setting is preferred.
