About the Department
The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) is the centralized unit charged with providing comprehensive support to members of the UTEP research community engaged in the preparation and submission of proposals and the management of funded projects. OSP strives to maintain a supportive environment for research and scholarly endeavors and encourages faculty and staff to seek external funding to support the mission of the University and to explore alternatives to advance their professional interest.
Position Information
Hiring Department: Office of Sponsored Projects/Research Administration
Posting End Date: Open until filled. This posting may close once a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.
Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends
FLSA status: Exempt
Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.
Purpose of Position
Summary: Provides senior level support for the post-award management of contracts and grants within assigned departments/centers. This role is instrumental in the review and monitoring of contracts and other research-related agreements. Works under general supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Functions
Interprets and applies procedures and regulations for the administration of government and private research grants, contracts and agreements.
Establishes record keeping procedures and monitors records for appropriate information retention; keeps records on each research grant, contract, and gift received by the University for assigned PI/Department/College through respective tracking and monitoring modes.
Supports the review, negotiation, and monitoring of research-related contracts and agreements to ensure terms are aligned with institutional, sponsor, and regulatory requirements.
Designs and creates systems to address specific program goals.
Reconciles general ledger accounts with various registers; extracts general ledger information; compiles cost revenue reports, and balance sheets; reconciles bank statements.
Verifies, records, and reconciles business transactions, including funds received and disbursed; compiles and organizes supporting documents such as invoices, work orders, checks, and vouchers; maintains accurate records using ledgers, spreadsheets, or databases.
Prepares and processes documentation for research grant proposals and awards, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and requirements.
May assist in contract development, including drafting, reviewing, and coordinating required documentation for research-related agreements.
Responsible for maintaining required systems of internal controls, to provide reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable and applicable.
Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.
Complies with all State and University policies.
Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Associate's degree from a two year college or technical school in a business field.
and
Experience: Five years relate experience to the statement of duties and responsibilities in research and sponsored projects areas or in a closely related field; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
