Position DescriptionThe Department of Psychological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position to begin September 1, 2026, in Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience. Competitive candidates will have expertise in conducting basic human research in fundamental areas of cognition and cognitive neuroscience, including learning, memory, language, perception, and/or decision-making. Research methodologies are open and can include (but are not limited to) EEG, TMS, fNIRS, fMRI, psychophysics, and behavioral assessments. Preference will be given to research programs that incorporate artificial intelligence, computational modeling, and/or machine learning into their study of human cognitive and/or neural processes.

Major/Essential Functions
In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
As a faculty member in the Department of Psychological Sciences, you will be expected to:
Conduct independent, productive, and programmatic research, compete for extramural research funding, teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, cognitive science, or linguistics awarded by August 2026
- Candidates must have a record of research productivity relevant to the field of cognition and cognitive neuroscience (including, but not limited to, publications, book chapters, and/or grant submissions)
- Candidates must provide evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence (including, but not limited to, experience teaching or assisting in a classroom or mentoring students)
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cognitive neuroscience
- Ability to conduct basic and/or applied research in areas of fundamental human cognition and cognitive neuroscience
- Ability to employ machine learning and/or computational models of human cognitive and/or neural processes in conjunction with other experimental methodologies
- Ability to appropriately incorporate artificial intelligence within research and/or teaching
- Ability to compete for extramural research funding
