The ATLAS Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in creative technology and design. We seek an imaginative, collaborative, and boundary-pushing scholar whose work transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries and engages deeply with technology, design, and human experience. The successful candidate will lead a forward-looking research or creative agenda, teach across ATLAS's undergraduate and graduate programs, and contribute meaningfully to the institute's interdisciplinary community.

We welcome candidates whose work connects with existing ATLAS strengths while also introducing new directions. Example areas include, but are not limited to:
  • Computational creativity, embodied interaction, and tangible-user-interface systems.
  • Bio-inspired design, biomaterials, nanotech, digital fabrication, and dynamic environments.
  • Human-AI collaboration, sonic interaction, and affective computing.
  • Interactive performance media, creative textiles, and cognitive augmentation.
  • Intersections of biology and computation, molecular phylogenetics.
  • Narrative systems and computational literature.
  • Education, learning sciences, and technology-mediated pedagogy.
  • Psychology, cognitive science, and human-centered behavioral research.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Lead an innovative, externally funded research group or creative lab.
  • Teach and mentor across ATLAS's undergraduate and graduate offerings.
  • Collaborate across campus, from engineering and design to environmental science and humanities.
  • Provide leadership and service to ATLAS, the campus, and your profession.
  • Advance inclusive excellence in research, teaching, and creative work.


What You Should Know

  • The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2026, but a later start date may be negotiated.
  • We expect to hire at the rank of Assistant Professor; however, experienced candidates may be considered for Associate or Full Professor.
  • Appointments will be rostered in the ATLAS Institute with a tenure home in one of the departments or programs at the University of Colorado (e.g., College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, College of Music, School of Education; see full list at https://www.colorado.edu/academics/colleges-schools).
  • The successful candidate should be prepared to obtain external sponsorship to support their research group and teach and work with students at all levels from diverse cultural and intellectual backgrounds.
  • As part of the University of Colorado Boulder's deep commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, the campus has implemented a reference check program with respect to final candidates for tenured faculty appointments. What We Can Offer

  • The anticipated academic year salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor rank is $100,000 - $120,000, depending on tenure home department and rank. A relocation stipend may be available within the tenure home program or college guidelines.
  • Tenure-track faculty are eligible for benefits including: gender-neutral paid parental leave; housing down-payment assistance programs; a relocation and dual career assistance program; and teaching, research, and professional development.

What We Require

  • Applicants must have earned a research doctorate or terminal degree in a field appropriate to their tenure home department or program, with an established and ongoing program of original research, a strong publication record, a demonstrated ability to obtain external funding, and a record of high-quality teaching and mentoring.

  • A strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and teaching.
  • Sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural, political, and geographical differences, with the ability to work well with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Evidence of diversity and inclusion skills in your research/creative/professional, teaching, and service activities.
