The Department of Computer Science at Georgetown University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2026.

We are looking for candidates whose work focuses on the broader area of Theory of Computing which includes complexity theory, algorithms, quantum computing, cryptography, differential privacy, algorithmic game theory, and theory of machine learning. We seek candidates who will establish an outstanding research track, excel in teaching and mentoring in both the graduate and undergraduate level, and will contribute to the intellectual life at the department and the university.

Our faculty perform research in four core areas of computer science: (i) theory and algorithms, (ii) artificial intelligence, machine learning, information retrieval, and data mining, (iii) security, cryptography, and privacy, and (iv) systems, networking, and architecture, with strong interdisciplinary connections to fields such as data science, linguistics, law, health, and public policy.

We are located in Washington, D.C., a global hub for policy, technology, and research, offering unique opportunities for collaboration with government agencies, non-profits, and industry partners.

Responsibilities of the position include:
  • Establishing excellence in research by advancing the Theory of Computing.
  • Teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Mentoring graduate students and supervising undergraduate research.
  • Establishing and maintaining a nationally recognized, externally funded research program.
  • Active participation in departmental, university, and professional service.

The projected base salary range for this position is $121,187-$151,220. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.


Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • A strong record of research in Theory of Computing.
  • A strong commitment to effective teaching and mentoring.
