The School of Music in the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Opera and Voice to begin September 1, 2026.

Major/Essential Functions
In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
As a faculty member in the School of Music, you will be expected to:
- Teach voice lessons to undergraduate and graduate voice majors. Teach courses related to opera and stage direction.
- Direct fall and spring opera productions, including casting student performers and coordinating with vocal coaches, music staff, and technical personnel.
- Recruit and retain a talented cohort of graduate and undergraduate students to programs within the voice area, School of Music and College of Visual and Performing Arts
- Direct graduate and undergraduate student research and coordinate teaching assistants
- Continue to build and sustain a significant performance and research profile.
- Provide service to the community, school, college, and university via service on committees, outreach, and engagement.
Required Qualifications
- An earned doctorate in opera, voice, or a related field prior to start date
- Evidence of successful teaching of voice
- Record of relevant professional activity and/or research that demonstrates emerging or established recognition in the field of operatic stage direction
- Ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in opera and related skills, such as stagecraft and opera directing
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Established national or international profile as an opera director, evidenced by productions with university opera programs or professional opera companies.
- Record of significant national or international performance experience in classical voice
- Active engagement in professional organizations with demonstrated potential for future leadership.
