Job Overview

The Associate Director of Regional Engagement is a key position on the Alumni Relations team responsible for developing and coordinating a strategic market presence in key markets for Georgetown. The position achieves this aim chiefly through the managing of Georgetown's Alumni Clubs and Alumni Contacts in these regions. Toward this end, the position partners closely with Club and Contact volunteers via monthly meetings and travel to each market as budget affords.

Part of the position's role is to cultivate, train, educate and steward a network of volunteers for various leadership positions both within the Alumni Club/Contact structure, as well as preparing them for other volunteer roles at Georgetown and beyond. The Associate Director will work to engage Clubs and Contacts on behalf of the University to deliver key messages and carry forward campaign talking points, the importance of participation in giving to Georgetown, as well as supporting University initiatives. In doing so, they will work to help build and engage a network of informed and educated ambassadors for Georgetown.

This position will work closely with Development Officers in their relevant region (West Coast and Southwest), the annual giving team, alumni career services, as well as unit-based Development Officers to create a comprehensive and unique strategy for each market they manage. This strategy will help balance the unique needs and priorities of Georgetown University, the "Called to Be" Campaign, and the Alumni Association. As such, the Associate Director plays an integral role in planning, coordinating and programming off-campus events for the University with the intent to reach our alumni and broader constituent base through a variety of regional events and programs.

This person will also oversee our communications strategy for the Alumni Clubs Committee, serving as the liaison to both the Vice-Chair for Communications for that committee and the Communications Committee for the Board of Governors of the Alumni Association. This will involve working with two committees of approximately 20 alumni.

Some travel, evening and weekends, are required. The Associate Director will serve as a professional representative of Georgetown University to donors, volunteers, prospects, vendors, faculty, staff and students.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

The Associate Director of Regional Engagement reports to the Senior Director of Regional Engagement. This position interacts with Alumni Relations colleagues in Alumni House (Affinity Groups, Career Services, Lifelong Learning), as well as Office of Advancement Staff (Special Events, Development, Discovery, Athletics, Communications, Annual Giving, Production, Alumni Records), University Staff, the Georgetown University Alumni Association and external constituents. They will work closely with internal and external constituents for university-wide events.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Minimum qualifications include 3 years of experience of which 1 year was specifically dealing with alumni relations, event planning, or a related area preferably in higher education.
  • Must be proficient with standard computer applications including Microsoft Office suite, internet and e-mail.
  • Proven experience working with volunteers.
  • Computer literacy, excellent writing and speaking skills and attention to details are vital.
  • High level of self-confidence and enthusiasm; ability to be a self-starter; strong customer service focus.
  • The ability to tend to the needs of the alumni body enthusiastically, professionally, diplomatically, and promptly is essential.
  • Candidates must have the ability to work independently and in a team environment on several projects at a time.
  • Experience working in higher education is a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Personable and experienced in customer relations.
  • Experience working with volunteers and alumni relations.
  • Must be extremely well-organized and detail-oriented, able to successfully handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, and consistently meet all deadlines and goals.
  • Must be able to assimilate data, exercise sound judgment and discretion, and work independently.
  • Accuracy in materials preparation, dependability, and ability to maintain confidentiality are required.
  • Event management knowledge also a plus.
  • Familiarity with social networking programs is a plus.

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
