Sociology, Anthropology & Social Work (SASW) in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Assistant Professor of Practice position in Social Work to begin 09/01/2026.

Major/Essential Functions
At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate level.

Required Qualifications
  1. Master's in Social Work (MSW) or equivalent degree in social work from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited institution.
  2. 7+ years of post-MSW social work practice experience.
  3. Current master-level social work license in Texas, or eligibility for social work licensure in Texas, within six months of appointment.
  4. Prior teaching experience in higher education using traditional face2face course and/or web-based modalities. Teaching while a graduate student will satisfy or count toward this requirement.
  5. Experience with engaging community partners to facilitate community learning service.


Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
  1. Credentials and training to provide specific types of social work interventions.
  2. 2+ years' experience teaching social work as an instructor of record for college or university level coursework.
  3. 7+ years of combined social work practice experience at any level or a Doctorate in Social Work or a related discipline.
  4. An ability to teach across the social work curriculum in a generalist program.
  5. Demonstrated record of contributions to the profession's knowledge base, through peer-reviewed publications, presentations, or significant community service at the local, state, regional, or national level.
