Position Description
Under general supervision performs skilled mechanical or analytical duties on various projects. May supervise subordinate employees.

Major/Essential Functions
Mail Preparation, Processing, and Delivery
  • Prepare departmental and U.S. mail for distribution, including sorting, labeling, and packaging. Accept, process, and deliver accountable mail and packages throughout the university. Pick up and deliver mail to and from designated campus locations according to established routes and schedules. Maintain accuracy, timeliness, and security in all mail-handling activities.
  • Postal Holidays: MailTech employees are required to sign up and pick up mail from the GMF (General Mail Facility) on days when the post office is closed but Texas Tech University remains open. Winter Break: MailTech employees are required to sign up to work at least two mornings (for a minimum of two hours each) or at the discretion of the department, during the Winter break to receive and sort incoming USPS mail.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Operation and Cross-Training
  • Operate mailroom equipment, including postage meters, tracking systems, and overnight shipping systems. Cross-train in all areas of MailTech operations, including carrier routes, equipment use, and mail preparation procedures. Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and report maintenance needs promptly.
Customer Service and Communication
  • Provide courteous and efficient customer service in person, over the phone, and through written correspondence. Respond promptly to inquiries and resolve mail-related issues or concerns. Communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and supervisors to ensure smooth daily operations.
Administrative Support and Documentation
  • Complete and maintain required paperwork, including daily mileage logs, time sheets, and other operational records. Ensure accurate documentation and timely submission of reports required by departmental procedures.
Teamwork and Quality Assurance
  • Meet daily deadlines and productivity goals to ensure both high quality and quantity of work. Assist team members in other mail service areas as needed or when time permits. Support a collaborative, efficient, and customer-focused work environment.


Required Qualifications
High school or equivalent and three years work experience. Additional job related education may substitute for required experience on a year for year basis.

This position requires eligibility to drive TTU vehicles, including a valid U.S. driver license and two years of driving experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Some knowledge of postal regulations and various mailing procedures.
  2. Experience in customer service on the phone or face to face.
