Description
This recruitment is being conducted to fill a temporary assignment and not being conducted to establish an eligibility list from which regular appointments will be made, as such this recruitment may close at any time. Employees hired in this capacity are considered at will and do not accrue property interest in the assignment and are not eligible for benefits.
There is currently one temporary assignment at Ventura College.
This pool will remain open until the temporary vacancy has been filled.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor, perform specialized duties to support veteran students and dependents in accessing their educational benefits and services. This includes acting as a liaison with the Veterans Administration (VA), ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and providing comprehensive support and information regarding veteran educational rights, benefits, and available resources.

Established in 1925, Ventura College was one of the first community colleges in California and currently has an enrollment of 14,500 students. Located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, the 112-acre campus is set in the rolling hills of Ventura - so close to the ocean that there is a clear view of the Channel Islands from several spots on campus.

Representative Duties
Collaborate with the VA to ensure accurate, complete, and timely processing of applications for educational benefits. E
Plan, organize, and conduct orientations, workshops, and presentations to promote veteran services and collaborate with on and off-campus support programs. E
Provide specialized information and guidance to veterans and dependents regarding their educational rights, enrollment procedures for obtaining benefits, and additional support programs. E
Attend and participate in training sessions and workshops to stay current on changes in legislation affecting Veterans Affairs Programs. E
Monitor and review student enrollment status to ensure compliance with VA regulations, report academic progress, and make appropriate adjustments to ensure timely administration of benefits. E
Serve as a liaison between the college and external agencies, representing the college at various local, regional, and national conferences and committees. E
Maintain, monitor, and update confidential student records and databases to ensure the accuracy of student information and compliance with federal and state statutes. E
Advise students on resolving program eligibility issues and verify eligibility based on the GI Bill or other veterans' educational programs. E
Work collaboratively and professionally with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, and ethnic communities. E
Demonstrate cultural humility, sensitivity, and equity-mindedness in working with individuals from diverse communities; model inclusive behaviors; and achieve equity in assignment-related outcomes. E
Perform other duties as assigned.
E = Essential duties
Minimum Qualifications
An associate degree or equivalent college units (60 semester or 90 quarter units from a recognized college or university) AND three years of experience providing customer service in a public service or social service environment.
OR
A bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university AND two years of experience providing customer service in a public service or social service environment.
OR
A master's degree from a recognized college or university AND one year of experience providing customer service in a public service or social service environment.
Experience with Veterans Administration educational benefits is preferred
