OPS Doctoral Intern, Psychology

Job Summary
The OPS Doctoral Intern, Psychology provides clinical services to students including intake, ongoing counseling/psychotherapy, case management, walk-in assessment/triage, group therapy, and crisis intervention. Participates in training activities and supervision for Master's level trainees. Provides consultation and outreach to colleagues, students, faculty, staff, and parents regarding student problems in order to coordinate support, success, and well-being of students. Develops and/or manages programs.

Job Description

Typical duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provides clinical services to the student population including intake, ongoing counseling/psychotherapy, walk-in assessment, triage personal/career counseling, consultation and referral, group therapy, case management, triage, on-call, and emergency crisis intervention.
  • Maintains clinical documentation in accordance with legal and ethical standards on an electronic health record system. Participates in training activities and supervision for Master's level trainees.
  • Provides consultation and outreach to colleagues, students, faculty, staff, and/or parents in order to coordinate support, development, and well-being of students and community.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments in the University.
  • Adheres to and complies with HIPAA, Florida licensure standards for psychologists, and the American Psychological Association Code of Ethics.
  • Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus including pre-storm preparation, post-storm clean-up and replacement of stored goods to ready campus for operations after a storm; or other services assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience providing short-term individual and group therapy, emergency assessment, and crisis intervention.
  • Experience operating a personal computer with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Experience applying college student development theory.
  • Experience working with a full range of college student mental health concerns.
  • Candidate from APA approved doctoral programs in psychology.
  • Completion of doctoral program comprehensive exams.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience providing clinical service for one or more of the following issues: eating disorders, substance use/abuse, sexual and other trauma/PTSD, career issues, or personality disorders.
  • Experience providing psychological testing/evaluation and report writing for diagnostic and treatment purposes.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary treatment teams.
  • Experience providing multicultural-competent counseling and outreach with under-served or minority populations.
  • Experience with faculty, staff, and student group consultation, liaison functions, program evaluation, quality assurance, or college student mental health research.

  • Possess the knowledge of general written standards and procedures utilized, and have the ability to read, interpret, and follow procedural and policy manual related to the job tasks.

  • Provide quality customer service by creating a welcoming and supportive environment.
  • Present a professional image in word, action and attire.
  • Apply effective techniques to create working relationships with others to achieve common goals; successfully communicates and collaborates with others to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrate skills necessary to look at situations and processes critically to make recommendations for improvement.
